What did you do in the garden today?

We don't have Menards here. :idunno
No Menards here either but then I didn't know I wanted them before now. :)
These tree guys are insane, he's like a tree monkey! The boom is out 110 feet right now, directly over the chicken coop/run. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to be up there. Well, maaaaybe a million. LOL
You'd never get me up that high either. Tree trimmers are amazing.

It froze hard again last night down to mid 20s, lost all the asparagus sprouts. I don't want to mulch them with straw because the slugs and snails would decimate the sprouts anyway. I might have to though. The celery starts might be dead too, but then they might not. The rest of the greens aren't happy but the kale couldn't care less. The supply pipe for the chickens water froze so I hand watered them this morning but by 11 am they had thawed out so that isn't too bad. Cold and dry here so no snow. At least it was windless so the morning Penny walk wasn't bad at all.

I'm just waiting to see if the seeds I stratified will sprout, and waiting for seed starting season to begin, and trying to keep myself busy until puppy pick up day.

My guess is that my lavender and strawberry seeds are no longer viable. I cold stratified the onion seeds to see if I get better germination from them. Maybe I'll bring in all of my seed starting containers and sanitize them... that will keep me busy for a little while. I know I will need my husband to help me cut and drag posts for the garden fence out of the woods, so that will wait for a weekend (hopefully a weekend above 32° and with sun). Pruning the lilacs and berries will have to wait for me to feel motivated. I get distracted WAY too easily outside because the red-breasted nuthatches, chickadees, and titmice(mouses?) follow me and ask for peanuts. It's so much fun, that I have trouble saying, "No."

Just saw your profile pic, just wondering.
When you first harvest sunflower seeds are they soft ? then they dry get hard, or are they under ripe?

I so wish feed bags were still made of heavy paper like they used to be, these days they're useless plastic.
Not useless. I use them for trash, covering things I keep in my shed to keep dust out of motors and such. Some use them as grow bags. They can be made into grocery bags or beach bags, used to store rags in the garage, etc.

Good afternoon all. No gardening today, but I did go get some chicks from TSC this afternoon. 3 speckled Sussex and 2 Turkens. Hubs feels it would be better to have them for eggs considering the state of things in the world right now and agreed to help me fix the yard so the bunnies still have their space as well. I’m planning to move them out to the coop on Saturday. I have no idea how much rain we got yesterday but it didn’t seem like much in the gauge, maybe a third of an inch. Still, there’s lots of new snow in the high country so that’s good news. It was 36 degrees here this morning, but we’re supposed to be close to 80 this weekend, what a 🎢 ride! Tomorrow is the last laser procedure for my eyes and then I can finally get glasses! Saturday is my tour at th worm farm. It’s working farm that uses permaculture methods and I’m thrilled at the chance to observe their gardens. Sadly, my lilac is still in transit with no estimated delivery date, it was stuck in Indiana for a while but it has made to Texas so at least there’s progress.

@Sueby i went to the doctor in early January of 2021. My fingers and wrists were so swollen and painful I couldn’t open doors, flush toilets, turn on faucets, tie my shoes, put on socks, …
I was expecting an RA diagnosis because my mom had RA for 50+ years.
They did a bunch of blood test. Gave me oral steroids which helped the swelling tremendously but messed with my blood sugar a lot ( I also have type 2 diabetes ).
Got the message that I have an autoimmune disease and to see a Rheumatologist. At that point I still thought it was going to be RA. She did her own series of blood & urine tests. March 8, 2021 I walked into her office expecting to hear that I have RA and instead was told that I have Lupus. 😳
Several months later my daughter went to her doctor and requested a blood test. Turns out she has non symptomatic Lupus. Her numbers were higher than mine! 😳
We both see different Rheumatologist but they are in the same office.

@igorsMistress where in Arizona is this worm farm? How long did you have to wait to get a tour? Sounds like something I would enjoy seeing when I’m out there in May if I can schedule it.

I can't get anyone to do anything besides see me once and shove me out the door! What happened to medical curiosity? The need to help those suffering? I am so frustrated. It's been TWO years.
