What did you do in the garden today?

That is a really nice, sturdy-looking green house. The basic layout would work really well for a coop.
That's what I was thinking too!

Morning. Still covered in ice here, despite a bit of melting. Supposed to be 37 today so it won't go far. I'm sick of wearing my ice cleats every time I go outside. Hopefully warm (50s) & rain this weekend.

I think I've got 3 out of 4 littles laying, but it's hard to tell because they keep switching coops to lay! It might be a big girl laying in the littles coop. :idunno

Trying to decide if I want to start my luffa indoors or just direct sow. Any thoughts?
Same here! I've failed with luffa for the past two years, except for two tiny toothbrush-sized ones last year, so I'm willing to try anything. Thanks to you folks who have found success with it! I'm going to start some inside and coddle them, plant them in May and direct seed a few at that time.
I teared up reading this. DP and I will keep the hydrocephaly possibility in mind as we get older.
Glad to hear it! I'm keeping it mind as well as my sister and I get older, especially if there might be a congenital component...reminds me to call Mom tomorrow and compliment her latest painting, it reminded me of Matisse!

All the soaking rain here has prevented much work outside in the garden, but I did get my inside seedling area all prepped today. I have room under the growlight for 30 small containers, which are all sterilized, filled with seedling mix, and on top of a heat mat. I still need to go through my seeds and work out what should be planted first.

Temps dropped last night from 80 to 27. I did the morning livestock chores in shorts and a T, and no coat, my sunburned hide from this week was chilled in 16 degree chills. LOL. so...

They'll be no outdoor work today. The winds are howling and we might make 50 degrees. Instead, I'll go to the market and menards for a couple of odds and ends I need for the hoophouse and I'll work outside tomorrow. Dog might get a bath too.

Planning to sort and clean the seed shed this weekend, when we HOPEFULLY get rain.
Have a good day all.

What do you use to sterilize plastic pots that you want to reuse? Bleach...? How much in a gallon of water? Do you have to soak them, or just scrub and rinse?

That's about all I can do to further my garden at the moment. Too early to plant in the green house, and the ground is still frozen solid. If the snow melts and stays gone, I could start raking up thatch for mulch.

I usually just wash mine out with water then spray with bleach spray liberally and let dry.

Prices have really gone up!!!

Also, I noticed that gardening items are selling faster this year than last year. 2020 things went fast, then 2021 it didn’t seem like people were buying things as much or as early, but this year it seems like things are flying off the shelves again.

I started all pepper seeds. This is the first year using a seed heat mat. The peppers are always slow to germinate, and I know it is partly or entirely due to the temps being a little low for germination. Hopefully they sprout well!

Chicks were evicted to the barn, yay! They are doing well in the big brooder.

I’ll be putting up deer netting around the run - but today was a little too cold, so I’ll work on it in the warmer temps tomorrow!

I use oxine, but I use that for a LOT of things.

Good afternoon gardeners. It’s toasty outside today but we’re in for another drop in temps over the next few days. I planted the lilac and watered seeds and sprouts today, that’s it in the garden. I need to move the shredder to the shed since we have a minor chance of rain and then I’m done out there. Over the last couple days I’ve worked on stopping water from running down the slope where I have stuff planted outside the wall. The soil there is impossible to dig so fixing the issue is a pain, but Arabian lilac has lots of tiny leaf buds on it :yesss: Hopefully it’ll fill in well this year and have an easier time of it. Poor thing, I planted it in the heat of summer last year. Have a good weekend all:frow
