you SHOULD be able to order them. If it's not something they normally carry, you do have to order what's called a pallet flat, which is one layer on one pallet minimum, so that's usually 4 or 5 bags to the store. Then you do not get charged shipping.

I guess it's the same way I cannot order blue seal chicken feed without paying an extra arm and leg from TSC. The main regional carrier here for TSC, does not carry it, so it's a transfer between TSC regional.
But for crimped oats??? That's just odd.

My goal today was to find the seeds we put up in fall… they were moved! I was successful, which is good because I went to the store to get TP and they had sold out all their seeds, even flower seeds… and lots of other garden supplies too, not normal buying behaviour of neighbours. Now tonight going through them all, figuring out if I really need to order anything… going to start some seed tomorrow morning regardless.

Where exactly did you manage to find 40# bags of steamed oats!?

Our local feed store. I believe they are milled nearby. I bought 2 bags because I'm concerned about supply/availability and costs going up. One bag usually lasts about a month. I'm trying to make it last longer...

Spring is pretty much here in the south. Once the grass growing is out of dormancy and kicks into high gear, I'll let the chickens out to free range every day which helps keep feed costs down. (It also makes my anxiety go up algorithmically because I stress about predator losses.... )

I also am going to try to set up a small feed plot and grow my own wheat and oats. We'll see how that goes. I've never done it before and have literally no idea what I'm doing but when has that ever stopped me?

Wheat is tricky as it is prone to all kinds of fun.'
And both wheat and oats are magical to harvest threashing and winnowing.
Hull-less oats are much easier.
Wheat I only grow to make ornaments and I haven't done that for a few years.
