What did you do in the garden today?

Cotyledons are the seed leaves, not true leaves.. next time you water them, pop one out of the pot and check the roots.. take a picture.. I like to see the roots as much as the tops.. when you plant in ground take bottom two branches off and cotyledons and bury it deep, just the very top sticking out.. they will love you for it..

I got out in the garden today, planted two more rows of peas, seeded some arugula, and decided to transplant half my Swiss chard and 10 lettuce starts.

My 10-day forecast looks decent! Can’t believe we had a huge blizzard less than a week ago…

Busy today - planted the other peach tree. Got a load of topsoil for the large bed we added last year - maybe 3 tons of it. 7'x16' trailer with a huge tarp and loaded up with topsoil - heaped above the sides. Man that was hard to unload - took quite awhile. Then planted the rest of the onions (about 200 onions I started from seed).

Yesterday and today we were finally able to pot-up the pepper starts and the tomato starts. Later than usual, but it will be a few weeks yet for the outside planting.

Here is some of the topsoil dirt on top of part of the bed.

Yeah its looking good. Of course at my elevation Tue is a Possibility of the white stuff again. But at least we have Sun again!

We used a backhoe the first year. It was dock and something like a wild parsley, cow parsnip? Whatever the poison ivy like one is, but dosent actually cause a reaction up this way. That thing had 2' roots and 6feet tall.

Giant Hog weed. Stuff is a *&*%$ mean. It has a lot of cousin plants that aren't poisonous and don't cause photo reactive burns, and they're all big. Member of the carrot family if I am remembering correctly.

Well as usual I only got an hour or so of garden time in today. Gorgeous blue sky, sun shining, breezy and 70°. Then a trip to town for a new Fork. Of course someone needed me to do things for them while I was out and about. Got done with that just in time to head up for the Niece's Birthday Party. 2hrs turned into 4, then its home at 6, Finally. Put the animals to bed early and Im hitting the sack in a few. Did get the chicks out into the hutch brooder, and made a batch of muffins 1st thing. So not a total loss on my one day off a week.

The new contender. Has not yet tested its metal against the foe. . . We will see how it fares.

Its similar but not quite it? Never been able to positively Id it. Even sent some to Cornnell and they couldnt tell me what it was.

We’ve had really rare, cold weather the last 2 years.. and before that we may have 8-10 mornings below freezing (25-32) all winter long. Very mild here.. 1/4 inch of snow was a lot for us.. last year we got down to 6° and was below freezing for 6 consecutive days and snow was over 10 inches.. we just about froze. We are not prepared for frigid cold, the old farmhouses (like mine) are not insulated for that ridiculous cold.. my house leaks like a sieve.. Storms coming now.. seems the severe storms are about the same, but more tornadic activities further East almost like Tornado Alley has shifted along with everything else in the world.. good luck and eyes open everyone in the ongoing attack of storms..

Yesterday I finished installing the remainder of the drip irrigation lines, then spent half of today planting most everything else that was waiting to be planted, save for the 2 pumpkin varieties ("Big Max" and "New England Sugar Pie") because I don't want them maturing too early before Halloween. How do you keep the corn from cross-pollinating? Does it mature at different rates?

Also, I planted Tall Telephone peas today too, first time trying! Do you like them?
