What did you do in the garden today?

More garden cleanup . Looked for morel mushrooms and found 2 . I couldn't go far But I went . :D Seeds should arrive this week . Planted the flowers I bought Saturday .
I’m envious! I’ve considered growing morels but don’t think we have the right environment.

I pulled another 3 buckets of weeds today. Gave them to the chickens. They can scratch the heck out of any they don't like, and turn them into compost for me for the fall.

My broody girl was broody for 5 days, and that ended 4 days ago. She went to the nest box last night. Dang. Took her out, blocked them off. She ran outside this morning, got a drink, then ran back in and went in to the nest box. Double dang. I figured I'd let her be just in case she needed to lay, though I thought she'd take a few more days to "get going."

She laid an egg. Thank you, Widget, dear, thank you.

dig some roots if you can. they might not start from seeds now (too hot for them).
So I tried to dig up a plant and put it in a Solo cup to transplant. Even though I was very careful and got most of the taproot, the plant is quickly wilting and going downhill. I don't think it is going to be possible to transplant them... 😕 I'm not heading home until Saturday too...

Got nothing done today other than some watering. Black fly season has begun and the first 3-5 days are usually too unbearable to be outside without protective gear.
I think I've got everything planted I have room for, except for a couple of raised beds that will be seeded with a buckwheat cover crop when the time comes.
It's gotten hot here early this year. Low 90's last week, mid 90'S this week. And to top that off, no rain, less than 1/4" in April. Was supposed to get some(?) over the weekend but nada.. And the wind blowin every day keepin things dry. Waterin every day somewhere.
Oh well, that's gardening!
Happy diggin.

It will grow . Any piece of root left in the ground grows . It cannot support the leaves due to small roots being lost or disturbed . Trim the leaves off .
