What did you do in the garden today?

How does it taste? I can't even stand the bitter smell of of dandelions.
I have so many that mowing the lawn should be re-dubbed, beheading the yellow beasts.

Not bitter at all, you just use the petals. I think it tastes like a mild honey. My oldest says it has a light floral taste

Potatoes....growing in a grow bag
Do I use same rule of thumb for watering as I do the garden (stick finger in and see how moist) or do ya water less so as not to rot the potatoes?

Tomorrow, I'll dig up a small start of my neighbor's rhubarb to plant with the two I bought. I hope it doesn't damage her plant. Anyone taken a section from another plant who can tell me how to do it?

There is a small two-stalked bit a couple inches from the main plant. I was going to take that one. Do I dig it up with a trowel? Use a shovel to cut down between it and the main plant?

Ok, just looked it up online. It said to dig up the whole root ball and then divide. Um... not gonna dig up her whole plant. I'm gonna just try to cut it free with the shovel, I guess. Cross my fingers that if anything dies, it's the little bit I'm taking, not her plant.

That's what I would do - just use a shovel to cut between. I feel like it might be a little late to dig up the whole root ball. But I'll tell you, rhubarb is tough. I've separated with a shovel & it never blinked an eye. I've transplanted in the middle of the summer & same thing. I've even taken all the stalks on a friends plant & it just grows back. You won't hurt it, but since it's a friends I might be a little more cautious. It will recover quickly.

Morning all. Picked the first lettuce from the garden last night! Nothing better than the first harvest!

There was a bunny trapped in the garden, DH wanted to shoot it but I figured once the clover comes back he won't bother the garden anymore. I also saw 2 dang squirrels run out of the little secure run on the big coop - where I keep the chicken food. I would have loved to pop those little rats. I have to keep an eye out & see if they are eating the food.

So I ordered some dried dandelion flowers from Etsy. I'll supplement with what I can pick from the front lawn, but the dog has access to most of it in the back & I don't want to use that stuff. Can't wait to make a batch of jelly! I was thinking of trying violet jelly too since I have so many here, but I'm not a fan of floral tastes, my allergies make me cringe about it, so I'm not sure I'd like it.

Yes lol although depending on the material it will probably need watering more often. Some mulch helps a lot with that.

My chickens don't have access to the compost. Botulism scares me in canning too.
