What did you do in the garden today?

Local meteorologists have been screaming doom porn since last week about the weather today and tomorrow. They were originally calling for 4-6" of rain, flash flooding, etc. Yesterday they "dialed it back" to 3-5". It was supposed to start around 7 AM this morning. It's now 6:30 pm and we've not seen a drop all day.... 😑
You need better mets. Anyone that screams weather doom porn, needs to go. They sicken me.
Tomato signs are done. I even made a page of what each variety is, so they can make their decisions easier. Maybe tempt them into a couple more plants. I'll set it all up in my garage space on the upper drive this year, mostly to keep the hens safe while they roam.
I must remember to pull out my plants first before I put them out for sale. LOL.

Ok stupid question for today...
I seeded my okra, zucchini, and cilantro in seed trays so I can let em grow til I figure out where I'm gonna put em lol.
Since it is so hot now i sat it on the deck for the sun to heat it up.
Now do I put the dome over it like ya would inside seeding or not necessary?
I haven't had luck with the chamomile I seeded outdoors, nor the coleus...so thought I'd better ask cuz that the only thing I did differently.
I'd dome it just to keep the moisture up until germination.

I don’t think they usually go for cucumbers…but if it’s the only thing available? Like last year when I covered my brassicas so the cabbage moth (green caterpillars) couldn’t get to them they went for the nasturtiums of all things!
Good to know...because my brassicas are covered and the nasturtiums are a mere 5 feet away, next to the sunflowers..... 🥺

Completely agree. They run around like the sky is falling and then nothing happens. Then they wonder why people start ignoring their predictions and REAL warnings. It did finally downpour about 30 minutes ago. Still raining lightly but I'm guessing we'll get more like an inch or inch and a half....not 3-5"

OMG that's so funny! And yeah, I was thinking it's way nicer a platform than we can afford so I'm going to use cinder blocks!

I watched a catchup video on youtube to get ready for the 4th season. We've sure seen those kids grow up over the years. And I agree, Winona Ryder has been great in the series.

I have rosemary, sage, yarrow, and thyme outside the covered run but mine are in 5 gallon pots. I'd never be able to keep them watered enough in anything smaller. The sage is gorgeous this year, it's been blooming for at least a month so far.

Resting and cooling off in the house right now but I got a ton of the weeding done and the first 3 raised beds and planted two zucs with many more waiting to be planted. I WILL have lots of zucchini fritters this year, I got robbed last year. :hit
I was just reading it was renewed for a fifth and final season. I’m looking forward to new episodes, true crime documentaries are getting stale.

I germinate my seeds on a paper towel in a glass petri dish. I put them in sunny trays when their roots come out. However, I also have a six tray dome seed starter. The direction says to let them sprout with the dome on and then take off the dome when they sprout.

I did a similar thing with my dried grocery strawberry seeds. I sprinkled the seeds on moist potting soil and covered them with a plastic wrap. It was in a morning sun place. I just let them be and then one day I saw tiny green straw berry plants, I took off the plastic when I saw them. They some how root them selves with out being buried.

They got a little bigger, but still tiny and green.

Tormented in west Texas checking in. Had pea sized hail, some rain, and the power is out. Dad turned on his generator to run his fridge and TV, if our DC fridge backup fails I'll take everything over to his house.

Tornado well east of us earlier, don't know the details yet. Bad weather may be done for the evening, praying they the power back up asap.

Haven't checked on the garden yet. Will tomorrow.

Another busy day. First the hoses. They were jumbled up, a mess. I rearranged them for better useage. Then got out the soaker hoses. The two raised beds were easy. But trying to figure out the large bed was more complicated for layout. Then some of the plants got a top dressing of compost, and a final layer of straw. I’ll try to do the big bed tomorrow. Rain starts in the early afternoon, then it’s rainy for a few days. But, what an amazing couple of days for getting things in the garden. Let’s hope for no hail during the storms!

Wow....I'm intrigued.... I thought strawberry seeds had to be stratified?
