What did you do in the garden today?

I have a big smell problem. One day while I was pruning my Brazilian Cherry tree, I decided to make compost tea with the leaves and branches. I was hoping that the branches would become soft and break down if I soaked them in water., but I don't think that's going to happen and the Rubbermaid trash bin that is filled with polluted water smell worst then human dodo. I think I screwed up when I put in some chicken manure compost.

Now I have to figure out a way to get rid of the polluted water without disturbing my neighbor. It only smells when I open the cover, but when the polluted water got on my hands, I couldn't soap out the smell from my skin.

I won't be able to use the liquid as a fertilizer. The next time I do this, I will try it with out the chicken manure and put the trash bin further away from my neighbors side.

Recipe please? Those sound great. And grats on having tomatoes so early, we're still a long way off.

It's pretty easy...

1. Pick your meat - I usually fry up a lb of sausage but sometimes will use diced ham or shred leftover bacon.

2. Pick your veggies - onions and tomatoes are a given in this household but I add others at times such as peppers, chopped potatoes, green onions, etc

3. Add cheese - I usually add just shredded cheese. Whatever I have on hand - cheddar, Colby-jack, or 8 Oz cream cheese. If using cream cheese, blend it into your egg mixture first before adding other ingredients.

4. Eggs - I usually use a dozen. Put them in a bowl, add a little milk and beat together

5. Then I add all these ingredients into a pitcher. Makes it easier to pour. Stir it up really well... Pour into silicone baking cups. If using an oven instead of an Instant Pot, pour into cupcake pan. Egg bites will expand so only fill halfway.

6. Bake - if using an instant pot, add 1.5 cups of water in the bottom of the pot. Put silicone mold on the metal tray and lower into pot. Pressure cook for 10 minutes. Vent.

If using an oven, bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

I usually end up getting a dozen to a dozen & a half egg bites out of this recipe. I put them in a baggie in the fridge and then pop them into the microwave to heat & eat for instant breakfast.

We use these big plastic things in metal cages. Don't remember what they're called...but they're cheap
Used IBC totes here go for $100. I don't call that cheap ;)

The description on the Dyna mosquito Trap says it also traps biting flies........This statement may be true since I don't feel any biting me when I go outside.
That would be good, some of those (like deer flies) will rip a good gash in your skin and you get to bleed. Then they itch a ton.

however, they smell like vomit, so its a problem if your neighbor's house is down wind from it.
Only if you like your neighbor ;)

I just kept on working today. THe tomatoes under the temporary shade cloth are thriving (except for the hail bruises). The tomatoes not under the cloth are stressed.
I set the extra post I needed into concrete.
Tomorrow is my day in the city, so I'll pick up the rest of my supplies then for the shade project. It's going to be delicate work around the tomatoes.
I have a tiny window of not nightmarish weather.

That's too bad. We paid a little more than $200 for 5 of them when we bought ours...but that was over ten years ago. I haven't priced rain harvesting tanks in long time, but I'm betting even at a hundred their still a good deal if you're trying to set up a rain harvesting system.

can you dig a hole, empty the bin and put some limestone then soil on top of it? if you do it near a tree it will be perfect.

I dug a hole next to the polluted water bin and poured a quarter of it in the hole and covered it up. I hosed down the residual and sprayed Lysol around the side of the trash bin. It was smelly for a while, but the hot sun eventually purified the smell. I still got more than half to go..............I thinking about pouring pine sol or Clorox in the polluted water.............................I'll try Clorox tomorrow.

Oh, forgot to mention, the foliage on my potatoes are starting to die out already... I planted in early April so it's been 75-ish days. Anyone else harvesting already? I feel like it's early yet....
I planted late March, 3 varieties. The first variety is dying back, second one isn’t far behind. The third- looks like only 1 plant has flowered, so I think those will be awhile.
