What did you do in the garden today?

One thing I noticed, that originally I thought was just because I was a fat ass, but after losing a ton of weight, realized, I just sweat..... it doesn't have to be obscenely hot or humid out either. The forehead is real bad, One thing I found that works wonders and also helps you feel a lot cooler too is a simple head band. it absorbs sweat, keeps your head cool, keeps your face from being sticky keeps you from sweating on everything you are workin in / on (very annoying) and helps actually keep you cooler, as sweating / evaporation is a key element in your body's cooling mechanism.

You can buy one, or as I have done, take a towel, fold it down so it's thin and long and then wrap it around your forehead and loosely hold it with a granny knot. Spin the know around to the back of your head so the ends are not hanging in your face and well... give it a try you might find its a quick easy way to keep dryer and feel a lot better.

Edit: a simple welders hat? or what you call it works too, its like a beanie cap you stretch over your head tight around your forehead to hold your hair up / absorb sweat. Harbor freight should have them for a few bucks.
Yes I inherited that trait. I wear headbands and sometimes Arctic cool T shirts . Sweat is evaporative cooling . Humidity keeps the evaporation rate low . Certain fabrics are better at evaporating .

Me too! Plus Mrs. Lobo tells me every day during the summer that I stink. Oh Well!
There is a shampoo on the market for Dandruff / Psoraisis etc called Selsun Blue. It has a strong menthol aroma to it. I used to use it as a body wash for a rash I used to get in extreme heat. It had kind of an odd after smell to it but scrubbing your pits and letting it set for 5 minutes then rinsing off, I found often would kill off the bacteria under there that caused the stink and you'd smell a whole lot better for a lot longer in the day. Sometimes you can scrub real well under the arms but the bacteria are not killed off, and you barely get yourself dry and they are already starting the fume factory.

Another thing to keep in mind, the body has several different types of sweat. Forehead sweat is more just water dripping off. Some sweat is oily, arm pits for example, hence the underarm stains on your T shirts, plus that oil holds bacteria and odor a lot easier and is a bit harder to wash off than just water. Other nether regions, the crotch for example, the sweat can be almost thick cheese like, greasy. This isn't the person being dirty or nasty or unclean, THAT is just the way the body sweats down there. Using baking soda can help sometimes too, because it's a fairly strong base, yet not strong enough to burn you, and can help soponify greasy / fatty sweat and emulsify it so it washes off easier and takes the odor causing bacteria with it. Wearing clothing that helps you breathe helps a ton for keeping odors down. Pit juice does not always do the trick for odor control, because although it may cause the sweat glands to produce very little, the bacteria is still there and will find something to grow on. Air circulation cools, and pulls the water away giving it less hospitable for the funkteria to do their magic.

Sometimes tho, we just got stank booty and gotta deal with it. Blame the chickens. I sat in chicken poop now got birdy booty, not my fault :D :D

Working on canning up my frozen tomatoes today. Decided not to skin or take seeds out, just blend w immersion blender. DH is out of commission with a slipped disc, so I’m on duty with everything. Chickens, garden, dogs, lawn, laundry, cleaning, dropping/pickup of DS…jars are sanitizing in the dishwasher so I’m taking 10 minutes to rest. I might go sit with the ladies once the sauce is going since it will be 45 minutes. DH & I split work at home pretty evenly so I don’t want to fall behind with him out…at least he can get up to use the bathroom on his own today (yesterday he was much worse). Picked up a fruit bread from the farm store this morning for dessert to save myself the time of making something later.

Let’s be honest though imagine being a kid and riding a giant tortoise 😂
It did look fun!
I dont think tortoises ever get done growing. I think they are like trees in that aspect they kind of keep growing until they die.

Aaron
Well...I hope hes done growing! It takes two people to lift him anymore and even then it's hard. Not even sure if he'll fit in our wheelbarrow anymore for moving.
Speaking of fermented stuff. Ever have blackened or some called fermented garlic? it's definitely an acquired taste but pretty good. I should see if I got enough garlic left to make some w/o killing off my next years crop stash.

I love fermented garlic! The liquid from it makes some crazy good pasta too.
Yesterdays garden canning:

9 jars of Rhubarb conserve. Contains rhubarb, lemon, orange, raisins, walnuts and liquid pectin, nutmeg for spice.

8 jars of red root relish: beets, red cabbage, onions, horseradish, salt, sugar, vinegar. Let’s just say it looked like a serious crime was committed in the vicinity of the food processor as I shredded 8 cups of cooked and peeled beets, followed by 8C of red cabbage. It was a messy process.
That is absolutely beautiful! I've finally given up on rhubarb here. I've even tried growing it as a houseplant just because I miss it 🤣. It really just hates the heat here though.
Mist in the valley?
Dew on the peaches?
Such a lovely image 🤣
I'm Back, in case Y'all missed me. Was in Belize for a week With Mrs. Lobo, Youngest daughter and her family. Soakin up the beach, clear water (not like our muddy beaches ) Spendin time with family, fishin, swimmin, snorkeling, watchin the thongs on the beaches, Good food and good beer. Just havin a well deserved vacation.
Got back Thursday evening. Seems like we had been gettin rain every day that we were gone. Had 3.5" in the rain gauge and added another 1/2" that night (hallelujah). Garden was likin it cause it had not had anything but well water since mid March. Everything had perked back up and growin better. Even the watermelon that had been struggling despite being watered every day. When we left there were 2 grape sized melons on the vine. Now they are softball size. Got a storm comin up from the Yucatan area ( clouded up and poured in Belize the day we left) and by the end of this week we're slated for more rain and it's not expected to reach hurricane strength. Bring on the rain. Maybe this will extend our growin season a little.
Alfalfa I planted in the previous onion bed just a few days before we left, loved the rain and is comin on good. Should make for a good corn bed next spring.
Blackberries that I had moved to their own bed past winter had been struggling also on well water. They too have perked up due to the rain. They may make it now.
Only downside to all this is, we came back to what appeared to be a dead freezer. Light s off and everything completely defrosted. Lost some Boston butts that were bought on sale, several bags of flounder caught over this summer and about 75 bags of various veggies saved for the coming winter. All got buried in the garden for worm food.
And to clarify "appeared to be a dead freezer". We had moved it out to the garage doors to do the cleanout and While cleaning it out I decided to plug it in to an extension cord. Darned thing started runnin! Tested the plug where it was stationed and it worked also. Can't explain why it was not runnin when we got home but it got to freezing temp. and stayed there for the past 2 days. It is now on standby until we have more stuff to stuff in it. Not an electrician nor appliance repairman so I can't explain what happened.

Well, That's all I have to say about that!
See Ya later!
Could it be the fan? Might need the back pulled and a good vacuum...or a simple fan replacement.

Picked apples from tree and grabbed a few tomatoes. On my way to make an oeey gooey apple butter cake! ❤

Nope. It's a laptop.
The screen covers never work right, and the keyboard is integrated.
All of that combined with the lack of updates makes it a pain in the butt.
It's ok. I've managed 8 years out of this one at about 14 hours a day, work and personal use.
Just argh.
But thank you for the suggestions.
There are wireless keyboards available
