What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. I got the top of my peach tree harvested yesterday. Mowed the front yard and made a peach pie. Today I got the trimming and sweeping in the front yard. The tomato harvest is slowing down but the okra is doing fine. I also picked a respectable bunch of green beans and dug a few more potatoes. My potted cucumber plants are full of developing cukes. I wanted to roast a chicken on the grill for dinner but it’s so dry I decided to use the oven. The forecast is predicting 1.5 inches of rain starting later this afternoon or evening. I really hope we get some. Today is hot and dry but the temps are expected to be in the 60’s Monday and Tuesday. My lonely acorn squash doesn’t seem to be getting any bigger. I just don’t understand what the problem is with winter squash growing these past two years. Back to making another batch of tomato sauce tomorrow. Have a good day all.

Yesterday I pulled all the grass out of the garden, terrified the chickens by putting a whole package of pine flakes in the run, and changed out the hay in the nest boxes. After that I was done outside. We got the mosquito/fly trap up. I'll give it some time to run before we pass judgement. It had at least one mosquito in there this morning and a bunch of moths.

I finally got the third and top string strung above the new fence around the garden. It's 7' off the ground, and yes, the deer can jump it, but maybe they will decide there isn't enough clear landing area and not jump. :fl It went well, but took about 5 hours.

From my vantage point on the step stool, I can see all the weeds. So. Much. Crabgrass. :barnie

So I set spinach, arugala , 2 lettuce and kale.
My acorn squash has a blossom .. you can see the older kale but will only take the small leaves for salad.
When the get larger I most often give them to the birds I got a young rat in my garden at the largest tomato. that brings it to 5

Nice Penny, and good for you, those darn rats.

Made the Mandarin Jelly this morning. 1 pt for the fair next year, and 6 half pints (plus a 1/4 pint for the fridge.)

Processed the tomatoes at noon and simmered them all day. 4 1/2 quarts there

Moved about 8 tons of stone with the tractor.
Got the stuff around the run leveled and watered down.
Installed the new driveway barrier and stone for the barn, and got that leveled, but not watered and tamped.
All the stone around the barn needs spread, but is there, except on the alpaca side.

The windmill blew a bearing, so we had to go up and anchor it. I can't get a measurement for a new bearing until I get a 12 ft or higher ladder. UGH.

The biting pirate bugs came out today, so I'm covered in welts.
