What did you do in the garden today?

Someone once told me I had the "best fishing spot in the county" on my property. Sadly, I have never checked it out. I'd be hesitant to eat fish from the river here, because of all the farmland around me. I know the local guy does use glyphosate herbicide, unfortunately, and the fields all drain to the river.

you can use both. Can't say one is better than the other, because well, their quality can vary greatly. Many variables. Liquid fish fertilizer, nice but those premixed liquids I find are often a lot of hype and you get very little real 'kick' from them. Castings are nice and can be used right away.

Fish fertilizer, if you are not squeamish, goto your local fish store, and ask them for the heads and bones, and you can make your own. If you really want, you throw in a bucket and cover with brown sugar and let set a few months. The resulting tea is liquid gold. Me personally, Id rather just bury the fish head by the plant. Get plenty of nutrients this way and the potash from the bones too as an extra bonus. I used to do this when fishing, Id throw the bloody water from the cooler on my plants and bury the guts by them. They grew like crazy but be careful, guts n such, not only can stink but like chicken crap, can be real hot and burn your plants if you go too much.

I make my own fish fertilizer. I get dead fish from the local bait shop. They are happy to give it away. I get dead worms from them too... Making your own will gag you but plants love it.

I'm having a shit day. Pardon my language.

Sliced my finger open feeding my special needs chicken today.

Then DD got sent home from school because she injured her ribs. Took her to the doctor and to get x-rays but no results until tomorrow.

Then our pet rabbit got sick. Stopped eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping. $170 later we still aren't sure what is wrong but the vet gave him a laxative so he's at least pooping now but nothing else.

Then I went to feed the dogs and smelled something burning. No smoke and can't find the source but the electric panel is hot. Called fire department. They confirmed the main breaker is overheating. Power shut off to the house until an electrician can come tomorrow. I'm blaming the company who put in our solar power system after checking my GPS on my phone to make sure I didn't transport to California.... 🙄

Edited to add... Today officially sucks! Just got more bad news. My favorite cousin died from Stage 4 cancer. She was 2 yrs younger than me. I meant to go see her the last time I went home in May but never got around to it. My sadness and guilt are heavy...

Hug your loved ones every chance you get.

My adult duck flock consists of a drake (Silver Appleyard) and 3 hens (Silver Appleyard and 2 Pekins). There's one boy and 3 girls in the new ducklings (Welsh Harlequin). I've heard stories about drakes killing the new ducklings, especially if any are males. My Pekins can be big bullies too... I'm feeling really nervous about the introduction...

do it on weekend when you can spend hours with them.

I have had muscovy ducks and indian runners.

Don't b eat yourself up too bad over not seeing your cousin. sometimes life gets in the way and that stuff happens. We ALWAYS can guilt trip the hellout of ourselves on this that and the next thing. Your memories of her are fond right now. You two may have had a fight when you visited last and then your last memories would have been tainted, so this could be a mixed blessing... we just NEVER KNOW. Go plant something in her honor to help make up for it.

THe power panel. Umm, yah, that can easily be done yourself, turn off at the meter BUT, how bad did it overheat? The breaker needs replacing absolutely but did it cook down the insulation any? What about the mounting studs on the box, do you need a new service box now? Make sure the 'electrician' doesn't see 'dumb bimbo' and want to take you for a $3400 dollar ride, especially if the power is out and they know the fire dept been out there, they got you over a barrel and desperate.

WITH THIS... are you paying a mortgage? If the answer is yes, get a report from the fire department and if you DO end up paying a sh$$ ton of money, write it off on your homeowners insurance. File a claim. No something like this wont make your rates scream up as long as these 'events' dont happen all the time with you.

Oh what a day! I am so very sorry!!!
Praying for you and your family in the lose of your cousin...try to remember the good times and not allow guilt to overwhelmed ya...it's good for nothing!
Be thankful ya smelled the burning and caught it before a house fire...though I'm sure it is frustrating, it can always be worse.
Today is a new day!!! Thank God

Wow, I'm really sorry about all of that.

@TJAnonymous Any updates on the ribs?

=============
A crazy number of tomatoes waiting in the garden to be harvested tomorrow evening.
Found two more Hornworms and fed them to the one hen who likes them.

6 pounds of chicken breasts in the pressure cooker to be canned later today.
Am getting ready to start processing a batch of tomatoes to let them simmer for the day.

I heard a recipe for pear raspberry jelly late last night. I'll have to give that a re-listen while I work in the kitchen.

Air is smoky, fire risk is high today, laundry is well underway.

Sounds like Queen Elizabeth is failing.
