What did you do in the garden today?

Which kind?
How? Did you do it dry?
It was a power XL I got from Costco 8 years ago.
I was cooking eggs, and the seal wouldn't set and let it get up to pressure and one of the safety valves was hissing. So I shut it off and let it sit.
It was NOT up to pressure, and the safety valves all indicated that there was no pressure inside, and I opened the release valve to let extra steam out, and it opened VERY easily, but the change in remaining pressure(I guess) rolled a wave of water (hot, but not scalding) up one side of the pot, flipping the upper egg tray dumping them, and pouring water all down the front of the pot and down into the digital control panel. That was it, she was toast.

Half the display won't. And the tones she used to play sound weird. I'm not trusting it anymore to do high pressure cooking. That's too dangerous.

I use my presto pressure canner on my flat /glass top GE stove. My canner fits 7 quarts max, so not huge. The stove manual indicated it was ok. I use it on my large burner- small ring size bc that is what fits the thick bottom on the canner.
Mine is a 23-quart Presto. It seems to fit the large burner. I just started heating it up to pressure can 3 measly quart jars of chicken. I still have 2 gallon bags of chicken meat to cook and debone but I ran out of patience. We will be butchering 8 more chickens this next weekend so I'll thaw out and cook the rest with that bunch. I need more pint jars anyway because I used the rest of mine for broth. Nine jars of chicken stock/bone broth. I'll pressure can those next.

Watching it carefully.... 👀 Almost to 5 now.

prices suck but these will NEVER go bad PERIOD unless YOU screw the pooch.
Keep the knobs lightly oiled on the treads and maybe a very thin coat of vaseline on the inner seal and it's good to go. I have had mine since the 90's and still going strong !

screw that digital crap, as you just seen, too many stupid crap to go wrong, electronics and the dynamics of pressure cooking just do NOT mix.

I have a 24 and a 35?? quart one. the small is for canning / cooking, and when making beer to boil the wart in, the bigger one for uses I can't publish here.

It's been a while. Like, a 20-pages-I'll-never-catch-up-on while.

Well... Monday, I was going to get straw to cover my garden, or at least my strawberries. I was busy doing house chores, so looked at the forecast and saw Friday would be the last day temperatures would allow them to be uncovered. I worked on Tuesday, and it started snowing before I left for work. Guys... we got 8"! In ONE day! So, my thoughts are that the blanket of snow are insulating the strawberries? If the snow melts, I will go out for straw and get them covered. It looks like Tuesday is the start of higher (aka snow melting) temperatures...

I know better than to procrastinate in my garden.... and yet, I never seem to learn my lesson... For example, I've been meaning to set up an Aerogarden with lettuce seed pods for weeks, and finally did it today.

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

We're mixing in some compost, getting the soil ready. The girls love walking the rows 😄
