What did you do in the garden today?

just back from the city to get paint and lumber for DH.
Snow blowers are out next to the giant seed packet displays. OMG it's the first week in January, IN NEBRASKA, FGS! can't really get things in the garden until may 10th at the earliest !
We were just laughing about this at RK the other day. They are fully stocked on seeds in January 🙄

It's almost as bad as the Christmas crap.

it used to be they waited until after Thanksgiving to push the X mas garbage, The following monday was like, ok it's officially 'christmas season' the music starts, the decorations come out etc, but now, it's not even Halloween and they are already pimping the holiday.

Why not leave the stupid decorations up all year, make even less work for your lazy Z carcass to do and gives the holiday even less meaning, plus it's a constant reminder for you to keep begging for stuff you don't deserve from people who have to put up with you.

I live in Florida, we get snow, what, maybe once every 5 years or so, and if then, it might be some flurries, or a light dusting IF that, IF you, I guess you could call it lucky, happen to be in one of the spots that snagged it. I got friggin Home Depot pushing snow blower advertisements at me almost non stop. WTF, just STOP Ok?? STOP !!!

You'd think that after 30 years of internet advertising they'd have learned already that doing this, actually turns people OFF from the product and YOUR BUSINESS !!

Love how that looks. The only potential problem i see is. over time, dirt from the upper tiers is always going to wash down into the lower tiers by natural gravity, water taking it etc etc. The plants in there are naturally going to sink with it. You will end up constantly having to add dirt to the top one to keep the level up as everything works its way to the bottom which on the other hand will eventually want to overflow, especially on the rainy days.

Not trying to be disrespectful just it looks like this might present an issue and if it IS one, its better /easier to do preventative maintenance rather than damage control.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to my tiered tower for strawberries. All of the dirt settled like you said.

I think I'm going to plant a few flats of grass seed on warming mats for the old hen that lives in the workshop. I know she misses freeranging, but no one gets to do that in the winter. Hmmm.....

Search your own threads in the bar above and see if you mentioned here where you got them. I bet you did.
I didn't post where I bought it apparently. I know it was either HD or Menards though. Regardless, I did find the model# SH1288-WHG-44LF2-L and three brand is Good Earth Lighting. This model is nowhere to be found on the internet though, not even their website. It must be discontinued, but still send odd that I cannot find information on it online by searching the model number in Google search. Disappointing...

Had an interesting conversation with DH yesterday. He asked if I'd considered growing bugs for the chickens, like mealworm or BSFL. Eh, no, not really.

But they do get bugs during Japanese Beetles season, roughly the first week of July through mid/end of August. Sooooo.... what if I got even more JBs (pheromone trap?) and froze some for the off months?

Surprise, surprise, he said go for it. As long as the bug are securely packaged, he doesn't care if there are JBs in our freezer.

I'll be even more vigilant on JB hunting this coming summer! No days off; get out there and sweat, Sally!

^^ That picture really makes me want my cherries trees to bear this year.

Then I'll have to figure out how to protect them birds and bugs. Sigh. So it goes.
They make little plastic like footies you can stretch over them, like socks that are supposed to help protect them.

Another way I have found is rat traps. You snap one or two of the little #$$'s that is stealing your fruit and leave the body lay there for a day or two. They learn to leave your trees alone VERY fast.
