What did you do in the garden today?

We stopped at ReStore (Habitat For Humanity store) and I found a metal rack I can turn into a potting station. It was priced at $60 but they had a 30% sale going so that and 3 books for the kids was $51 with tax. Its 30" wide, so will fit nicely in the greenhouse against the back wall.

Froze last night. Managed to keep the water running though!

More of my homesteading youtubers are talking about Dumor/Producer's Pride and egg-laying slowdowns and dead stops. Not the preppers now, the regular homesteaders. That's when it gets worrisome.

I'm getting 5-6 eggs a day from my girls since I switched. Told hubby "Eat all the eggs! We're going to be swimming in them!" Haha!

I'm not doing much for the garden still. I give it a bit of water now and then when it's above freezing.
checking it out now, thanks

Exactly what I’m thinking! I have a 6 hole version but would prefer the bigger one. I’ve seen some people leave some of the holes open so the plants have more room, not sure it would help with maters tho!

Thats what I do. DH mulches the leaves & I bag them up in the big HD paper bags & store them in the shed for the winter. I have 3 bags out there still since we’ve had no snow. what doesn’t get used goes in as layers in the compost pile during the summer.

All the snow melted. :yesss: I can go visit my birds!
I have a nine hole version and kept only the best looking sprout. I still think mine is too small and it doesn’t generate enough light. I’ve has great luck with lettuce and a few herbs and it’s good for starting seeds. Lesson learned.

But, it’s easy and does grow lettuce very well lol.

Now, all seed orders have been received. I looked for all melons I ordered…this year. Sooooo..18 varieties. Lol. But, 6 watermelon, 6 orange flesh musk melons, and 6 that should be honeydew type. I really hope to get a honeydew. I’ve gotten a few watermelons in the past, and some musk melons, but never a honeydew.

Will they all get planted? No idea.

Yea I think I would probably never try tomatoes in it. Start them - sure, but not to actually produce anything. It did a fantastic job last year starting my thyme to move outside. I’ll have to see if I have any lavender seed I could start. Lavender is my nemesis, I cannot keep it alive outside here.

Got out to see the girls, my red is molting. Shes 4 & never molted (well, not a noticeable molt anyway) & to do it in Jan? 🤔 Weirdo. Explains her not laying anymore & beats her being sick!

We still have plenty of snow left but the fence is taller now and some pavement and muddy grass is emerging. The sump pump is coming on every 5 minutes or so but it’s melting. My hens got out of the coop and run briefly. Tomorrow sunny and above freezing for more melting. I’m thinking about trying to grow a little lettuce indoors with the new equipment I ordered.

Nasty, dirty snow but they got out for about 5 minutes. They had not been out since last Thursday.

I think this guy grew his tomato plant to the fruiting stage with out refilling his nutrient solution.

Thanks! That was very informative. I’m going to give that a try and I subscribed to his channel. I’m going to go through his videos in more depth over the weekend.
