What did you do in the garden today?

Still waiting! It hit 50 on Friday and everything was melting & underwater. I was so excited to get the girls out of the run. I woke up to a blanket of snow. 🙄 They refuse to step on it! This weather is so wonky. It seems like the crazy stuff happens on the weekends too, when I have time to get outside. Soon enough, I suppose…

I went to the poultry auction brought 5 home 4 full size 1 black, 2 wellsummers
and 1 easter egger. Then to top it off I picked up a banty black cochin. very friendly bird also.

The forecast is for milder temperatures this coming week. Plans are to spend a little time on yard cleanup. All the ice and snow piles are almost completely gone now so I’ll be taking a good look at the garlic. My garlic bed is still covered with leaves @Acre4Me. I’m thinking it’s still a bit early to clear the bed. The chickens are laying well for now, between 3 to 5 eggs per day. That’s from my 9 hens, 2 of which are 5 yo.

I’m concerned we’re heading into a faux Spring. Everything gets warmed up and starts blooming then we get an icy blast of winter for several days to a week. I plan on pruning my peach tree down to where it’s easier to throw plastic sheeting over it when the icy blast hits us.
I’m afraid of the same. 50-60 degree days is not good right now. I’ll have to keep an eye on my baby peach tree too, it has buds.

I have 3 layers right now, out of 6 birds. My poor red decided Feb was a good time to molt. Dummy.

I walked thru the garden yesterday & my cedar raised beds are starting to fall apart. I’ll have to figure something out there this year, some kind of corner brackets DH can make maybe. They are 5 years old now, which I suppose isn’t too bad for wood here, & i will get another couple years out of them. My garlic looks about the same as @Acre4Me, which is perfect for this time of year. I never covered my strawberries in the fall & right now they are still green!

the 8.5 year old pet hen has laid another egg! LOL
she's so sweet.
Moved a massive shelf in the shop, and everything on it. Now everything along the walls is on wheels for easy mouse chasing and cleanup. I am SO SIck of mice. There was a newly fuzzy grey baby running around yesterday, and it kept hiding under Miss Trying to lay an egg. NOT the smartest place to run. She chased it off and went after it twice. I almost caught it by hand. I was going to take it out under the hayshed. Darn field mice are so flipping cute.

But alas, it got away.

All the little spring birds are twittering away out there.
Rain coming here tuesday and then snow wednesday. Don't like the mud, but we need the wet.
