What did you do in the garden today?

Windy! Winds are currently 25 mph and getting up to 27 mph. The greenhouse is holding strong so far. Something on the house sounds like sheet metal flopping around though. We have aluminum siding and soffit - I cannot see anything loose and moving yet so hoping it's just soffit that isn't secured somewhere because that's an easier fix.

winds are howling and it's dark again.
I've put up 3 days of water for man and beast, moved the plow to the upper garage at the top of the hill, built a larger enclosure for the noodlenecks so I can lock them in the barn this afternoon until the storm passes, all of which means we will get minimal snow. Hey, if that's what it takes.
We need the moisture, but I don't want to deal with the mess of snow and melting snow, and then the fog as it melts off, and the ice as it refreezes at night. Rain and be done with it.

The dreaded mystery flapping.....

Snow Day (really ice/sleet that started Valentine's Day).

I started some eggplant seeds in a wicking setup new to me from a YT video by something with 'VanDuzee' in the channel name. t was an instructional video for kids on microgreens, I adapted it for seed starting/testing germination.

Will do more on that with some peppers next. Might put them on heat mat, the eggplant seeds are just on top of fridge now.

Ok, ok….bought a few more seeds. John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds. Bought some vining flowers for shade. The vining Hyacinth worked well last year. Very pretty. We will use them for the trellis that is supposed to shade the extra chicken pens. Any they might be used on south side of chicken run-but the birdhouse gourds really cool that area off and grow fast and thick….so I’m not sure for that area. when I ordered seeds in Dec, I couldn’t find them on their site so I didn’t order them. Unfortunately, JSKGS charges shipping based on purchased amount ($ value). I was sad bc seeds are pretty cheap/light to ship the small packets but the ship cost was high. So, I bought what I needed. Well, and one new pepper to try, one new squash to try, and one new turnip to try- but I stayed in same shipping category.

Windy today, but warm!! Cold and possible storms tonight-tomorrow. Possible tornadoes too. Hopefully it stays away from us (at least any tornadoes or straight line winds can stay away).

Spouse tilled the large beds for the first time this year. We wanted to turn under the leaves we had piled on top. Looks good!!
