What did you do in the garden today?

I ran out of Neem oil today and decided to use an old bottle of malathion insect spray. It smells really potent and says to apply only 5 times per season at a minimum of 5 day intervals. It can be applied up until 1 day of harvest. In addition it says to let it dry before allowing pets to get near the plants, but my chickens are different. I know they will eat the leaves, so I locked them up.

I have 10 hens and 2 roosters with 6 eggs in the incubator, so I will process 6 for meat. This way I can keep them locked up with 2 hens per rooster with out them feeling stressed. They declared war on my tomato plants and lost the war..............

I can't attest to drift from a neighbor, but where I live the city sprays Glyphosate along the curbs to control weeds so they don't have to mow. Last spring they sprayed along my property. My Catawbas were about 40 ft away and greatly impacted. My Concords were about 20 ft further away and not impacted at all.

After that mess, I put up a sign requesting the city to avoid spraying anywhere near that side of my property. We'll see if they listen... 🤞🙏
I'd have sent them a bill for the damage.

Well I was annoyed from the perspective of WHO THE HELL SPRAYS WEED KILLER WITHIN 5 FT OF A GARDEN???? I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they aren't very smart so I put up NO SPRAY signs. If they do it again, it's on like Donkey Kong.

We've already been fighting with them over our driveway (long story, but we fixed ourselves) and over a storm drain that they are dumping on our property. The tricky part is that they did all this under the previous homeowner who never did anything about it so it's an uphill battle to get them to address the problem now.

Just candled my eggs. I loaded up the incubator with 22 eggs 10 days ago. At least 20 are fertile. One was clear. The other had a detached air cell and likely died after a few days. All the chicks will be put up for sale but it's still fun to watch the process play out.

:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
I have a sneaky hen that is sitting on eggs so I guess I'll have some chicks again soon too. Lol
