I stayed calm around him but told him to never cut anything down in the yard without asking every again. I told him that I spend a lot of time and money on trees/vines/plants and that he needs to ask first.Literally crying right now.
My 14 year old thought he was helping and cut down my grape vine by the sweet corn patch.
It looked the best it ever had and was five years old.
Feeling gut punched.
On the rhubarb, if you are wanting to harvest then cut it so the plant keeps putting energy into stalks. Also, if these are newly planted crowns cut the flowers so the plant grows more stalks/ leaves to feed the crown so it grows big and healthy to survive the winter. If the plant is established though and you are done harvesting rhubarb then I don't see how it hurts to leave the flower - it could even lead to propagation, giving you additional crowns to dig up and plant elsewhere in the future.Leeks are planted now. The seeds were planted in cells on Jan 30, planted outside today, so almost 3 months of growth.
We decided to also plant some carrot and beet seeds. First time planting them this early.
Fruit trees were all mulched too! Lots of sun today, plenty of wind, which means the carrot seeds may be in more locations than just the planting bed.
Rhubarb is flowering. Interesting, but I looked it up and every source says to cut them off.

Asparagus bed is looking good. Planted last spring. Unfortunately, voles are in this bed. So I found “Vole-X” at Walmart and put some in their tunnels. Hopefully this will work to get rid of the voles.

I admit I'm ancient, but I'm quite familiar with YouTube and have learned many things from there, including how to fix the 12-volt battery in my electric car, what graphics card to install in a basic PC to play a few games, how to fix my ancient dryer, various methods to train a pony for driving, the best time to plant dahlias according to the weather. You should check out You Tube, we are in the information age where we don't have to buy a cooking book for recipes, its free on the internet.
