What did you do in the garden today?

Are toms dead just because it's too hot now by you? Is that normal?
I don’t know, probably because I was sick for a couple weeks and couldn’t get out there to check nutrients and stuff. Some of them grew little tomatoes, so I did something right but not enough I guess.

Hydroponics is ok for some stuff, but I’m going to create SIP beds in my full sun area instead of buckets. Buckets are too much work.

Oh my goodness, best of luck to your hubs! Nobody wants to get sued so they don’t help at all I guess. Pretty sad.

Thank you!
That's very true, and so sad. Mind you, 10 years ago when we were presented with a blatant situation where the doctor made a terrible mistake, my husband ended up in ICU for 8 days afterwards because of it and the doctor wouldn't even come back to see him. He didn't have rights in the hospital where he actually DID THE PROCEDURE apparently. It was terrible...but instead of suing anyone, we took down the names of every nurse that went above and beyond to help my husband and we made donations to the hospital in their names. The hospital even called us to get our story afterwards because they thought we were really happy, lol, I said, no it was the worst experience of our lives but that's why it was so important to us to acknowledge those that were actually there for us...I feel like we have more than proven we just want help.
We're not that old, but my husband has really been put through the wringer. We're just trying to make the most of every day that we can! Don't let the bad days drag you down! (unless you need to sit down because of the vertigo.)

I need to broadcast some mustard seed in the area where chickens free range for them to have some fresh tender greens and stir the ground enough to kill newly sprouting weeds where the okra is going in and hopefully get it planted today ahead of the coming rains starting tomorrow. That's a maybe. Maybe I'll just nap. I'm not being supervised again before late tomorrow afternoon so this is my chance to be an older adolescent. :)

Good morning gardeners. I don't expect too much going on in the garden today. So sorry you are still having health problems @igorsMistress, losing your job over it only makes things worse. I'm still feeing the aches and pains of normal stuff and I'm sure the cool, rainy weather is exacerbating the aches. The ballet was really good @Sally PB. The dancers were so very talented and strong. Happily there were no female dancers who looked boney and frail. I had never seen a ballet performance like this, mostly ballet but with some modern dance type moves. Well choreographed. One of the male dancers really impressed me by his strength when he caught his ballerina partner who lept into his arms not just once, but 3 times. You don't see that very often in today's ballet troupes. It's a dangerous move if not done correctly and takes a lot of strength by both dancers, but more so on the dancer catching the other dancer making it seem so effortless. This troupe, the Harlem Ballet, tour the US and internationally. I would highly reccomend going to see this if it comes near to where you live. I did a walk around my soggy garden this morning. There were a couple of additional potato plants emerging. Also, the new asparagus crowns are starting to pop through the dirt. It's supposed to dry out and warm up finally. Tomorrow I'll put the tomato starts and a few other things outside to start hardening up. The rosemary can go outside tomorrow as well. I will be skipping the logging this weekend. I need to prep the new beds for planting and work on getting the grapes planted. There's enough cleared (of logs) space to just get things into the ground as soon as possible. I can always go back and chip away at the clean up.

I hope your hubs is ok, heart health is a lot to deal with and I imagine the stress doesn’t help him at all when you just want to feel normal! Plus you, I know you worry about him and that’s a lot of stress for you too.

I’m not that old either, just a wee over 50. I’ve had terrible allergies and issues with my ears my whole life. Suddenly I’m finding out that all these little issues that were normal to me have meant more than I thought. I didn’t know that tinnitus could be transitory, I thought it was a constant ringing in the ears that didn’t go away. I didn’t know that Menieres was a thing until after this vertigo episode. I just figured I had inner ear issues like I’ve always had and went on with my life. It’s the constant dizzy feeling that’s disconcerting. The fear of falling as well as the fear of being out and about and having another vertigo attack.

I have found that as a patient we have to advocate for ourselves. I had a hysterectomy about ten years ago and my wound was really painful and not dressed very well. The doctor said it was fine, but the nurses knew better and really did a great job of making me more comfortable so nurses rock!

So glad you had a wonderful time at the ballet, and I love it when they mix things up a bit with different routines. Sounds like there was a little something for everyone.

Are you using the logs for anything, or is someone coming to clear that eventually?

I’m using some to edge the planting areas. I cut one maple branch (about 4-5 inches in diameter) for firewood. I’ll cut some more firewood eventually but I have more time to do that. There’s so much of it, I can’t afford someone to haul it away. The small branches get thrown back onto the property behind mine since they’re the ones who payed for the logging. They are letting the forest grow back so it will all compost and feed the new growth. I would prefer not to have a dense forest behind so I’m trying to make it a useable space and more attractive with flowering trees, shrubs and ground cover. It’s so much work. Just to clarify, I’m only working on the property that I own.
