What did you do in the garden today?

I secured the harvest gap on my tomato cages with two 6ft bamboo stakes. I think the 9ft cattle cage is better, but I don't have a truck anymore, so I can't buy them.

I need to figure out where I want to move them. They are in the garden bed I want to get rid of. It's about a 4'x4' rounded diamond shape in the middle of the section of grass between the driveway turnaround spot and the front main garden bed (aka a weird spot, and in the way). I was going to get rid of it the first year we were here, but I remembered that there were pretty tulips in it when we did the inspection. It is straight out from where the underground sprinkler lines come out from the house, and has a small diameter PVC pipe buried vertically in it, too. Which reminds me to ask: Does anyone have any ideas of what the PVC could be there for?
I looked at my tulips again and it looks like one of my doubles did bloom. It's falling apart now so I missed its beauty. Oh well, next year...

Shai Hulud. At least this one doesn’t have teeth. I wish I had a thumper to make sure these things don’t invade the garden.

Just kidding. I think I posted this picture already, but that’s a very long worm I found a few nights ago. I would say it was about 8 inches long. They can stay, they provide help in the garden.

Thumbs up if you get the joke reference.

I ordered tree peonies today!!

Tree peonies keep woody stems above the ground and get bigger every year. They generally get 4-5 feet tall, maybe some are taller. Unlike regular peonies, the tree peonies do not attract ants.

We had two in a previous house. It took 5 years for one and 6 years for the other to bloom for the first time -because we only bought young ones. The blooms on those were huge and the petals looked like the big tissue paper flowers that kids make sometimes

So, ordering opened at noon today for fall shopping. I had three in my cart, and two sold out before I could check out :hit I checked out at 12:12 pm!! so, I ordered only three and not the five I was planning. Hopefully they will bloom next year. These are grafted, so they are likely to bloom the first spring, but not guaranteed to do so.

This is one that we had over 10 years ago. Huge blooms and very fragrant.

Those look like what we called Night Crawlers back in Missouri. After a heavy rain we would go out and gather them to use for fish bait.

Got Spice?!

possible. Photo?
I was going to take one today, but forgot when I stopped looking at that garden bed.
I uncovered PVC pipe along the driveway and on the edge of the property. It's a gray-water pipe, drains kitchen sink and washing machine water outside. In places with a high water table it reduces problems for septic systems.
But, this is vertical, with the end open and just barely poking out of the ground?
I'll definitely post pictures on here.

All the tomatoes are transplanted except the super sweet 100 that I apparently forgot to start. Seeds will go in the garden soon. The trellis netting and clips arrived today from Amazon. I hope to get the meeting up tomorrow and the start clipping the plants to it.

All peppers are transplanted and staked to protect them from snapping in strong winds.

I need to plant beans still. And I may need to consider uppotting the watermelon, cucumber and other melons (cantaloupe type), which are all that's left in the greenhouse right now along with a few extra tomato and pepper plants that I will likely give away.

I have 4 yds of gravel sitting in the driveway I need to get working on also, which means I need to dig the old mulch out of the garden paths and level the ground before laying landscape fabric and finally the gravel. Tomorrow will be a busy day... doubt I'll get it all done in a day.
