What did you do in the garden today?

I mulched my tomato and basil plants with partially composted hardwood leaves. That should make 'em happy. Did a little fertilizing, and deer protection. Then I mowed half my yard. The other half is looking better and better as a pollinator attractor. Some parts are over a foot tall, grasses sending up seed shoots and daisy flowers are growing taller and taller. Saw a great big bumblebee while I was mowing, so my plan must be working. LOL

I figured either a raccoon, opossum, or groundhog. I hoped to choose the right bait.

I had some smoked turkey and some celery to bait the trap with.

I think it could be that the bushes were fish fertilized before I bought them. That would make sense as to what happened, though they were not bothered when they were in the pots.

I just hope I find the villain in the trap by morning.

I need one of those to hold my hose. I have at least 250' of hose. And found a big split in one just today.

Anyone know what kind of bush this is? The flowers don't have a lot of scent. I don't think it's honeysuckle.

Do you have any additional pictures? I have both Autumn Olive and Goumi Berry. They look similar.

Visitor today…I *tnink* it’s gone…

Came home at lunch, looked out the kitchen window. The barn door (people door) was open bc it was propped open, and an animal has in the doorway, its back was to me so it was looking in the barn. I couldn’t really tell what it was-a bit too big to be a cat, but not right shape to be dog/canine. I went out back door, closed it, my cat scooted under the car and I could see a stray cat a ways to my right. One of these things spooked the animal. It ran INTO my barn. Great. I do a search, cannot find it. I had kept people door opened, and also opened one of the large garage doors. No luck finding it. I went in to eat lunch.

Back out to the barn. I looked to see if cat was in her bed (her usual spot at most times), but she was not, telling me the animal was likely somewhere inside still. It was my cat’s usual deep nap time so, it was telling that she was not reclined in her bed. I found this:

Groundhog I think. I moved this cart and it ran out. But I couldn’t see if he left the barn. Since that was his most likely route (outside) I can’t imagine he would still be in my barn. Of course, I’m hearing random noises making me think it’s still in the barn!

Maybe a sardine would be good bait. LOL Good luck catching the varmint.

That looks like something you'd see in a sci-fi movie. Those claws look more like they belong to a predator, not a woodchuck.

It has a slight scent. I don't have a good sense of smell any more. I recall it having more about 20 years ago.

Some have thorns, some don't. I think I have both.

It seems both are invasive, and we have a lot of them, everywhere. I won't be trying to get rid of them, though, as honeybees like them.

If it is russian olive, those thorns can go right through tractor tires. Just an fyi.

Well it's OBVIOUSLY a groundhog/woodchuck......it's under the wood rack. You interrupted his wood chucking.
