What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Yesterday was exhausting but I got everything planted except 2 lavender plants, the other chives and the remaining oregano plants. It got very hot. It was only 82F but the sun was intense. Today I’m running errands and washing the dogs definitely. I did manage to get the AC unit set up in my bedroom yesterday afternoon which was a good thing because it got very hot inside the house so I ran the AC for a couple of hours before bed. I watered this morning to beat the high 80’s today. It’s going to be hot again tomorrow but with rain predicted. The vegetables are all doing well and the peas should be blooming soon. I had to pick the bok choy. It was starting to bolt. I’ll plant more in August. The butternut squash are coming up now. I’ll be planting corn this weekend and fencing off that garden. So in addition to my small asparagus harvest I can add a small harvest of bok choy to the annual “garden haul.” Lol! Oh well, I guess that’s what comes up at the Wee Farm.

No, I’ll check into it.

The one I’ve found that does great is a Bonnie heirloom slicer but its never specifically labeled beyond that when my general store has it, nor do their order records indicate what they are beyond being heirloom slicers. Thus I’ve never been able to order them online. They look most like the German Queen Bonnie has on their website.
The Manalucie is a large slicer that is I think you would call oblate. Deep and wide one way. Heavy leaf type for protection from sunburn. https://www.etsy.com/listing/757000771/heirloom-tomato-manalucie-heat-tolerant

Just walked around and looked at what we have done in 3 yrs here. Figs grapes muscadines some hybrid broccoli(? Don't remember what it is, as usual.) Patch of sunflowers and wild flowers and millet for the birds moving into that area. Ever bearing mulberry (we put up 10 gal off 4 trees this spring) the list goes on pineapple guava hardy kiwi. Pulled back on the veg this yr to spend more time on the birds. Previous yr wife figures we brought in and gave away about 4000lbs. Central fl I can grow bumper crops of something all yr. I dont know what life is about at 43 yrs old, but I think it looks alot like this. Taking care of yourself and others in a way that leaves as little impact on our surroundings. My son came up with the handle urban sustainability for what we do. Its the hardest thing I've ever done, but the beauty and what these natural processes teach us (for me patience, being quiet, and forgetting what you think you know about how things work. My grandma just smiled somewhere) I grew up on a farm, moved to the city, made a fortune and was miserable. Rekindling a life style i hated, (we raised and did our own everything, went to town once a month) has brought me the joy my life was lacking. The house by the beach, nice cars, boats, all the things money can buy. We were all miserable, there was no challenge, which led to there being no point (how do you have everything in your 30s and keep waking up and doing the same dumb shit everyday) it made us soft and lazy people. Some days gardening isn't gardening. Some days its self therapy and reflection. Someday it is appreciating the "fruits" of all your labor. Some days it just the beauty and sounds of it all, that make your soul whole again and help renew your appreciation for the chance to live a rich wonderful and interesting life!

And thats what I did in the garden today?

One of those mornings.
Started out to do one thing, and everything I touched led me a different direction.
Two hours later and I'm sitting down for a bit.
UGH.
Everywhere around me got rain this morning.
We had about 12 drops. Sigh. A literal ONE drop came from the gauge.
Same for us on the rain so far.
