Well, some critter knocked down the watermelon I've been waiting for on my vertical trellis. Broke it open and ate the ENTIRE inside. It was ripe too! I'm guessing it was a deer. It was hanging in a t-shirt sling about 3 ft off the ground. Man, I'm so aggravated!

I watered the garden a bit and picked a hatful of cherry tomatoes.

I weeded around my garden kennel (my youngest thinks the flowers are fun to pick so the whole garden is in a kennel, plus helps with the drip system that I have) picked some cherry tomatoes and checked my cucumbers and planted some new irises I got

Had the first rain sprinkle this morning. Now tonight having a good rain fall.

Did you eat your turnip raw or did you cook it?

I cut it up and cooked it with the greens. I had to look close because some kind of worm tunneled into it. But I do love raw turnips too if they don't have worms. LOL

I can totally related. Dang DEER! I finally put a fence around my horseradish plant, which they've been slowly eating. I guess they can't handle eating very much horseradish leaf in one sitting.

You probably saw my solution to the deer problem...

Just what I grew up learning. I also learned to remove the skins, but also due to them curling and not blending with sauces, getting stuck in teeth, harder to digest.
Never made much sense to me as you eat raw skin in salads and on burgers etc.
But we all do it our own way, and it all works.

I also don't like pieces of tomato skin in a sauce. that's why I blend them and a few pieces that don't blend I just throw them away.

I pulled (7) 5-gallon buckets worth of weeds today. Lots of crabgrass and purslane. I really needed to get that stuff out of there! Funny, just last week, there didn't seem to be hardly any weeds in that spot...

Now that the drought is over, I have to contend with weeds. I will gladly make that trade!

if I had those weeds my chickens would be happy. I have a lot of deep rooted wild cucumbers that are toxic to animals.

I picked up my first melon I have ever grown in my garden! I did try to grow them but drought killed them. I do prefer my new place. temperature drops at night so we all can breathe.

cucumbers and zucchini are the only things that ripen. I have to wait for the rest. I hope that weather next year will allow me to plant on time. almost all plants are stunted due to heat. the good thing is we have 2 days more of brutal heat than we shall get back to reasonable heat.
