What did you do in the garden today?

While not tomato soup, I will mention my favorite use for cherry tomatoes is roasted with olive oil, garlic and herbs in the oven at 400 degrees F then used as a easy pasta topping or on crostini or good pizza topping /sauce substitute. The skins do not bother me on smaller grape or cherry tomatoes.

Yes, I have been looking at some YouTube videos of roasted cherry tomatoes and will try that, maybe in my air fryer at first with a smaller amount and see if I like it. I suspect I will.

One of the things I have been making with my cherry tomatoes is a "poor man's pizza" which is basically toasted bread, some miracle whip, sliced tomatoes, cheese, and a pinch of italian herbs. Just toast everything in a small toaster oven for about 10 minutes and presto, fast pizza. I just bought some pepperoni slices to add to my poor man's pizza for the next time I make some toaster pizza.

They are very heat tolerate! They are unfortunately not real fast growers in my experiences. They can take many years to reach large shrub size. You have to start somewhere and the large specimens are very expensive. Enjoy your lovely bushes! The honey bees love them too!
That they do. I also have some Arabian lilacs and they are very fast growers. The one in my backyard has been there three years and is six feet tall.

I would rather eat a big bowl of toasted crickets than put that synthetic, manufactured "meat" into my mouth.
Then don’t eat hamburger. The tumors that are used for the immortal cells also go in there sometimes per the article. Supposedly the cells are from cows and can’t cause cancer in humans. I’m not eating it regardless.

I know this is not a recipe forum but: Try fresh sliced or halved cherry/grape tomatoes on Italian style fried eggplant like pizzas. I do that and sprinkle with fresh basil, cheese and olive oil and broil them. My family likes "eggplant pizzas". Of course , you have to like fried eggplants! The same ideas works on larger slabs of fried or grilled zucchini.

I’ve mentioned it here before but I really like popping my cherry tomatoes into a freezer bag then into the freezer. They last a good long time in there and it’s great tossing a cup or two of them into a sauté pan with olive oil, salt, pepper and dried herbs from my garden. Do this in the middle of winter and it’s like a breathe of summer air. While watering the garden today I noticed the tips of some of the shallots were getting brown and dry. The big one practically jumped out of the bed. I pulled a few more to thin them out a bit. I’m letting them dry for now.

These were grown from seed.

Other than washing, do you have to do any prep work to the cherry tomatoes before you freeze them?

I know with green beans I was told you had to blanch them in hot water for about 3 minutes, then put them in ice cold water for 5 minutes, then freeze the beans.

No. Just rinse, dry and toss into a freezer bag.
