What did you do in the garden today?

Picked two tiny plum tomatoes, starting to blush. Squash dead, most of the melons dead.

But I still have flowers...some of them blooming again. Maybe all that rain perked them up.

From my walk around the yard this afternoon...

Stella d'Oro

The canna lilies love the heat, so they have stopped blooming.

One thing I learned after the gels & comfrey poultices etc etc.
I can't stand, I can't sit, I can't dance :old however I found something that tames the inflammation & pain

Emu Oil. Dang it helps me get to sleep & tames the pain.
First I can see a PA is another week. Try the Emu oil I am impressed.

Thanks! I’ve never known anyone who has used it to find out if it works. Will definitely give it a try.

It’s been awhile since I’ve had persimmon. Note in my previous post both types say “non-astringent” bc persimmons can really be astringent until ripe. We try to grow non-typical or hard to find ripe fruit, so persimmons fit. I’ll have to learn more about how to deal with them. But I have a few years before any fruit!
Yeah I noticed the non astringent, but those potentially would grow in my zone so I wonder if we’d like them.

What do persimmons taste like Karen? I’ve had them included with other produce boxes we get from time to time, but I didn’t know what to do with them.
My husband asked me what they taste like and I can’t think of anything to compare them with. Google says pumpkin but I don’t agree. They are sweet when they are ripe. Here that means they have turned an orange color and they are sweeter after a frost. They feel almost like jelly inside the skin, but can be a bit firmer and still be ripe.
Unripe and they definitely make you pucker up and you don’t forget it!

We planted 2 persimmons this year. One died, and we recently got a replacement for that one. The other one looks good. Hopefully both survive the winter and grow well next year. Looking forward to trying them out eventually.

Here are the two we purchased:

The one that has grown well so far.

They are very thin trunk-they come with a supporting stick. I think they are supposed to grow fairly quick. They are zone 6+, and we are 6A. Hoping they survive, but we placed them on a south facing slope hoping to give them some extra sun and warmth.
These are different from the ones I picked. Mine are native to Missouri and grow wild here. I am surprised that I don’t have any on my property but fortunately I have a couple of friends that have some an some parks have them growing there as well. I believe that the Asian variety are larger and are firmer than these native ones.
I hope they grow well for you! 🤞

Have you tried making persimmon cookies. My mom made them for Christmas and gave me some and my kids ate most of them.
Care to share the recipe? I’d love to try them. 😊
@igorsMistress No, I definitely don’t think they have a yucky armpit aftertaste 🤣🤣
Grape & apricot had a baby ? I can definitely see the apricot kind of flavor but definitely a different texture.
