What did you do in the garden today?

Just tried my dehydrated own tomatoes with cheese on a slice of bread, somebody said it looked like a poppy 😅 my son didn’t know you slice the tomatoes crosswise and not lengthwise 🤪

When I finally came home, I harvested what was left of my garden ( sorry to say all my raspberries, peaches and apples just rotted away, the „boys“ didn’t know what to do with them, but bought apples 🤬)

I will need to pay attention to possible frost soon, and get the sweet potatoes dug if it threatens.
How are they looking so far? Are you seeing any popping up under the plants? Last year we saw some like that, but this year I’m not seeing any popped up, but I can’t easily access the whole area like I could last year. One variety has been looking like it’s done for a couple of weeks (leaves look like they are old, turning color), but the rest look great. We plan to harvest ours next week bc it works out for us to do that. Probably next Wed-Sat is the likely timeframe for harvest. Hopefully we find lots of great looking SP- and I hope you do too!

I have to say it’s a lot nicer to pick beans when it’s 65 degrees outside rather than 85 degrees when I pick them in July or August
It is so much nicer!! We usually do 2 plantings, but this year only got in one planting. We’ve harvested 3x now, plants might produce a little more. But grasshoppers have been a real problem this year, and a fair amount of the beans have been damaged.

We bought an extra freezer for the barn. Costco had a good price on a 9cuft “garage ready” freezer. It can actually be adjusted to a fridge too- but plan is for use as a freezer. But, we were running out of space in our small (7cuft) chest freezer, and the upright freezer with garden produce, pre-made foods for quick dinners (such as homemade stews, taco meat, etc), and it’s almost applesauce season -my spouse loves to make large quantities of applesauce and freeze it all. Oh, and the pepper sauce…last year we made over 100 bottles! It gets made, aged in fridge for a month, then frozen.

Maybe Mick Jaggers lips at 80?

Would love to do something in the garden ( weeds have grown like weeds 🤪) but I’m not allowed to bend for 5 more months 🙄 usually, it’s only 3 months of no bending, when I asked a doctor about it, she said the surgeon that had operated me knew why he said 6 instead of 3 months, and I should stick with it 😬
Did you have back surgery? I had two rods put in my back to straighten my spine in 2017. I finally just started gardening like I used to (almost) a couple of years ago. I still have a lot of pain trying to readjust my body, but decided that I was happier gardening and taking after chickens and geese.
It also does not help getting older!!

No, got a hip replacement , problem is if you bend too much, the new hip could get dislocated , which is very painful, requires a trip to the emergency room ( and I’ve had enough hospital visits !) and if I’m lucky a short stay in the hospital to get it relocated, worst case another replacement hip…but the other hip is wonky too 😬 and, I’m not a teenager, but not the median age for hip replacement (70) either, so it really isn’t fun 😞, was born with hip dysplasia, but only found out about it after my hips were no longer working like they should :(
