My birds are out of control. Bok, Bok, squawk, bok bok. Excited about nothing. The roosters aren’t helping, they’re louder than the cackling hens. I gave them all treats, I fed them their feed. (Why can’t they just shut up?) :idunno
They need to feel heard by you.

Do you buy ivermectin over the counter or via horse vet?
Over the counter - I get the individual syringes of the liquid stuff, not the paste.

It’s 15ml of liquid ivermectin, 10mg/ml.

One needs to be careful because some ivermectin is 5mg/ml.

You can get 100ml bottles from a vet - would last forever for chickens. Average horse gets 10ml. Though I just dose my gals the whole 15ml. Safety tolerance is high with horses and cattle, I once dosed a yearling double the dose - what an adult horse Would get!

Oooops.

He was fine. Sure cleared his parasite load though!

Thanks to everyone sharing thoughts on Piglet. To answer questions asked.
- I don’t know when the head shaking started - I only noticed because I was desperate to find anything to explain her lethargy. It wasn’t until this video that I really got convinced that she was head shaking more than usual.
- Regarding weight she had finished molting when I weighed her back in October and I have no idea if mine lose weight in the winter. When I get back I will weigh a couple of the others to check.
- I created numerous warming stations for her and I know she knows where they are because I lured her into them with treats. But she has no interest in using them to warm up! I think bringing her in will only stress her. I did try to confine her on a warming pad in the Chicken Palace but she would have none of that! The last few days have also been a bit warmer. Hmmm.
- A neurological cause from being shaken is not something I had thought about. It seems a bit unlikely because being shaken that hard might be expected to also cause some other injuries. But maybe I missed a wound that has since healed.
- Infestation of something creepy-crawly or ear infection seems most likely.
I can’t do anything until I get back when I can weigh her again and examine her again. I may also try to see if I can get her in to see the vet. But if it is an ear infection I am sure she will say she cannot give antibiotics.
So frustrating!

Tell the Vet she’s 5 and doesn’t lay anymore. It’s silly not to give antibiotics for an issue like an ear infection.

Good thoughts.
If I scatter BOSS in the straw she is totally capable of precision pecking to get a seed. She will give a few half hearted digs for more and then goes to sit down again. To me it looked like lethargy, but now you raise the suggestion it is not unlike how I behave with arthritis so maybe she does have aches!
She has no issue getting up to the 4’ roost and her peck to Nutmeg’s head was precise (no head shaking then).
I should also add that she seems wary of the others and I think has dropped down in the pecking order. Calypso in particular can be mean to her (and everyone else) and she will not push for treats if there is a mob around.

What’s her age now?

I have been dosing Marty and Curly with aspirin in the morning, Marty seems more active - Curly not so much.

When you get back you can see if some aspirin helps. If so see if you can get some Meloxicam for her.

She is not quite three years old.
