What did you do in the garden today?

OK, I cracked open one of the black walnuts that was in the drying crate.

For background clarity :
My step-dad passed away on 12/25/2019. He would collect black walnuts from a giant tree in their yard and put them in a 4 ft x 4 ft crate. This crate is sitting in his shop and has been untouched since he died. He processed tons of them with his 'Grandpa's Goody Getter' and would freeze them.

I wasn't sure if the nuts would still be good. Someone on here mentioned they were only good for 2 yrs. These nuts were likely collected in the fall of 2019.

They crumble rather easily when you try to remove them from the shell. However I did try a few chunks and they tasted like normal black walnuts. Not bitter or anything...

Would you say they are still good?
l A tip for you. Diagonal wire cutter - wire nipper is helpful to get the nut meat out. Break the shell.

Since I got back into vegetable gardening I've been very disappointed with supposedly fresh seed purchased from garden centers, etc. The germination is poor, as is the selection, and bush beans turned out to be pole beans two years running. This year I ordered some Borage and Summer squash seeds from Baker Creek and was very pleased with the quality.

I decided to order from the company again, just some lettuce seed for this autumn, and went a little overboard.

Today my seeds came!

The Spoon tomato seeds were a free gift, and I'm looking forward to growing them next year!
