What did you do in the garden today?

I whole heartedly feel you. It seems like these days that lazy, laid back, take time off feeling is always so overwhelming. I don't even know if I can get it together enough to keep going. I'm going to try to make life work.
Yeah. I wanted to sleep so badly today but got to the feeding of everything. Not a whole lot of photos but I did like the fact that the Kalanchoe is still flowering and the sunflowers are really rocking. Well the Royal Velvets anyway. Not sure what happened to the other two types.

I keep slacking on the quail work but I'm trying to get to it by Friday at least. Then I'll reward myself by maybe buying a breeding group or two. I wanna find that silver looking japanese quail.

Also. It's funny how the Thai Chilli is just sprawling and throwing fruit everywhere while the Twilight rainbow just stayed compact and staunch but it's really starting to fruit.

Goat update.

Male rams the doors, has horns and gets the tip in small (1x2”) holes then twists/pulls. So plywood up to protect the doors. Spouse (who built the pen) wants him gone (smelly, destructive) but need to go through one more heat cycle in about 3 weeks bc we may have only hit the end of the heat when he arrived. So, here’s to hoping that male settles down a bit in between heat cycles. He’s actually good natured, but used to a little bigger pen (although no girls housed with him typically). Here’s also to hoping that the girls enter heat sooner bc of the male with them. They are Nigerian Dwarf and cycle throughout the year about every 21 days. Although presence of male may impact this (different views read, so I don’t know).

Garden update: only rutabaga and mustard in the ground now. Hoping the rutabaga get more size on them.

We pulled the sweet potatoes from curing spot- they got a little over 3 weeks in there bc of lack of time to remove, bring in. They started to sprout I guess bc of the humidity, but otherwise look really good.

We're in Charlotte, NC, visiting FIL who is in his 80s now. Sunny, warm (high 70s, low 80s), and I'm going to do some yard work today.

Yesterday, DH and I got out the "big, heavy ladder," to clean out gutters. FIL would try to do it and he shouldn't be doing that kind of thing any more. It was a struggle for DH and me to get that thing up and extended high enough to reach to second story gutters!

I'm going to rake and -- no! -- bag the leaves to go out to the curb for pick up on Friday. Seems a shame to throw them away, but they have no garden and no chickens to help take care of that kind of organic debris.

:idunnoSometimes I think I would like to have a goat. But Dear Wife is against that idea. When I was stationed in Naples, Italy, our landlord had a goat for milk. One day the goat was gone so I asked him what happened to the goat. He said the goat got on top of his car and scratched it all up, so the goat had to go. That was some expensive milk.

G’morning gardeners. I was wishing that our front yard wasn’t so bare this morning when I watered. The ground is basically cement out there and it sucks to try to dig a hole for anything. Then it occurred to me that I have a bunch of grow bags, including three giant ones, and it’s a chicken free zone. Duh! I also found a nice white pot while I was digging around in the shed along with rat poop. I heard something in there a couple nights ago, so I’ll have to deal with that later today. So far the dragon fruit looks good and the tiny leaves on the sage indicate it’s still alive. I gave it some plain water today, but think I’ll give it some blue juice next week. Our temps are still in the 80’s so I think everything will get some since I didn’t fertilize at all in the heat.

Your wife is right about a goat. I had them for years for milk. They only stay in if they want to. They will find a way out.

gorgeous again today, but still ridiculously dry.
Fabric flapping on the line in the breeze.
Hens are pecking around the ranch.
Alpacas are currently having a spitting contest.
I've got a turkey in the roaster. The turkey is for canning. The local market is having a buy one-get one deal. I love turkey mixed in with my chicken noodle soups/dumplings.
I cleaned out the herb beds. Nothing to do now (with the garden) but wait until seeding season in April.
