What did you do in the garden today?

Even though I covered my parsley with frost barrier, it
I made a 44-gallon set it and forget it kratky trash bin for my last Kajiri melon. The crickets can't get to it, it's way off the ground. I also made a 20-gallon kratky trash bin for a Sun Sugar cherry tomato. I want to see how many fruits I can get without refilling.

My Hoss tomatoes are doing better than my Red Snapper tomatoes and they were seeded 14 days later. The Hoss tomatoes are growing in Promix with a front 2lbs line of Dr. Earth Tomato fertilizer. The Red Snapper is growing in Miracle Grow Potting mix with a different type of fertilizer. I will use Promix or something similar (Peat and perlite 4 to 1) in all my future DYI Earth Box grow outs.

The first picture is the one with Promix and the second is the one with Miracle Grow Potting Mix.

BTW, those heavy duty black & yellow totes were on sale at Lowe's on Black Friday for $9.98. Not sure if that was everywhere or just here. I picked up several...

I noticed this morning that my potted Mona Lavender plant is INFESTED with scale. :hit This plant has never been outside so I'm pretty sure they migrated from the hibiscus plant I brought in for the winter about 2 weeks ago. Those little suckers must move fast... I had sprayed the hibiscus with Dormant oil because it had aphids on it... I have a bunch of plants squished together on a table under some grow lights in the sunroom for the winter.

I'm battling spider mites, fungus gnats, aphids, and now scale in these plants... Dang it! If I didn't have animals in the same room, I'd go crazy with the Sevin. I've used Neem once already...

Last night I thought I heard a Menards commercial that said 'get it before the rebate ends" but figured I was mishearing it as the dumb rebate program as been running non-stop for three years.
I went today to buy bits and bobs for the remodel and went to tear the form off the bottom of my bill. NOPE, there isn't one. Rebates ARE OVER?!
(mailed in all my hoarded receipts today)

Rosemary and oregano are perennials here, zone 8a. It does get below 20° but not frequently.

I did some cold weather preparatory work today, as it's supposed to go below freezing tomorrow night, and down to 20° on Tuesday and Wednesday night. 🥶🥶🥶 Outdoor faucets have been wrapped, house plants have come in from the porch. I have some row cover material that's supposed to also be good for cold temperatures, so I plan to lay it down over the carrot, lettuce, and turnip beds tomorrow. The collards don't care, I've seen them covered with ice and snow, laughing it off...well, sorta. :gig
Covered the beds:

They always stop rebates day before Thanksgiving through new years…sometimes s bit longer.

I found out that Spinosad doesn't kill crickets, but I have something that does, it's a granular yard and vegetable spread made by Seven. I have been using it for ants and for a creepy fat white worm that bite. It works on surface by contact or underground and it can be used in vegetable gardens. Crickets are on the label kill list.
What about your chickens? Mine „love“ crickets, that’s why I don’t have any 🤪
