What did you do in the garden today?

I recently bought a can of calcium carbide from amazon to fruit my pineapple. I put a few pieces of it straight out of the can on the top of my pineapple plant and put a little water on it and it produced some fruit forming gases. I forgot all about it, it must have been a few weeks ago. I think I see the beginning stages of a pineapple forming. This is the first time trying this, so I hope it forms into a pineapple. I wasn't sure if I put enough calcium carbide in, I was just trying to see what would happen. It looks like it's working. I'll take a picture when it forms. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078X347X8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 :wee

I have 3 greenhouses and one of the bedrooms would work for a place to put them but I was thinking more about being able to get the plants in the ground before April 15th. Of course PG&E has been sending their prices through the roof so until I can get off grid I'm not looking into lining their pockets. Lol

you can start planting veggies that tolerate cold first. with a long growing season you probably can start your garden around march (peas, spinach, brassicas, etc.).

I put an extension on my DYI earth box cage. A half section or two and a half feet of galvanized fencing can be used to bring the cage up to 7 feet. I just got done spraying my Hoss determinate tomatoes with seven insect spray. I am waiting for it to dry before I put my insect net on them.

I got a bunch of marigold seedlings growing wild all over the place, sure beats trying to sprout them. I put a plant next to my Thai melon plants, hopefully it will repel aphids. They are easy to grow in pots and the flowers make me happy for some reason.

My Kajiri melon and Sun Sugar Cherry plants are past the danger zone and have adapted well in my large kratky trash bins. :frow

It's been raining hard all week, so I decided to check the Sun Sugar Cherry tomato plant roots on my 5-gallon kratky buckets. The plant roots in the net cup with a 1/4-inch wicking rope that extends to the bottom of the bucket was white and full, and in comparison, the roots without the wicking rope weren't as robust as the one with the wicking rope. This shows that the wicking rope in the kratky set up is beneficial to the plant.

I cut the half inch pvc drainpipe inside the buckets, so only an inch of solution can touch the roots. I can tell that the rain has been keeping the solution full, so I cut it according to how long the roots were. I hope the rain let up and let them drink the solution up to 6 inches from the bottom. This is where I will start pouring in solution daily to keep the level.
