What did you do in the garden today?

I think this 40-gallon kratky set it and forget it trash bin is better than large grow bags. I have to water the grow bags daily and a lot of the fertilizer washes out without a catch pan. This may be the way to go.............

I see a baby Kajiri melon forming, I hope the bees don't sting them like they do with my squash.

I like when it rains at night only. snow is ok for a day, just for change. is there any wish button for weather, lol.

1 inch of snow here and another inch expected this evening. Main storm expected Wednesday.

I hate when it snows overnight! I like to watch it snow all day, not wake up to piles of it. But then it's supposed to be 50s & rain on Tues/Wed so all this will be gone - that's perfect for me.

I gotta go tuck in the chickens, top off feed/water & then dig through my camping stuff to see if I can find my solar shower so I can shower here instead of going to my sisters. If I lived in the old days before heating & indoor plumbing & stuff I'd have had to live in the south.

I did get my seed order in this week! I'm planning to rotate some things in the garden this year. I need to start thinking about that and stay out of the seed catalogs.

It's forecasted that there will be several inches of snow dropping here in a week or so, so I plan to harvest everything that's out in the garden before it hits.

I'll pick all the kale leaves and hope new leaves eventually sprout from the stalks. I'll trim the leaves from the Brussels sprouts, eat the young tender ones and chop the big tough ones for the chickies.

And I still have a small patch of carrots to pluck. There might be a couple pounds in the ground for me, and the girls enjoy eating the tops.

Once everything's picked I can top dress the raised beds with chicken compost. When the snow falls and then melts, it'll percolate all those nutrients down into the soil.

And I need to pull out my seed box and see if I have all I need for this year's garden. I might do that today. The seed starting station in the laundry room needs to be set up for action, too.

I remember heating water on the stove and bathing in a #3 galvanized washtub.

I kept moving my small seed grow light up and down above my seedling trying to figure out what was the best distance to keep it. My main fear was burning the leaves if it was too close and leggy stem if it was too far. Well, what happened next, is my seedling got leggy in just one day. I put a thermometer under the light and found that my grow light didn't give off much heat, but I still felt worried about burning the leaves. Anyway, when I woke up this morning, I had an idea. I had one of those small water-cooling type air conditioners laying around gathering dust which I am using to make the stems stronger and prevent the leaves from burning. It also adds humidity to the air.

I moved the chain on my grow light to the lowest setting, it's about 2 inches away, from the top of the plant.
