What did you do in the garden today?

I got one piece of HC laid into position in the run and the other piece is cut and ready to install. I’m letting it “rest” for this part of the morning. I picked another 1/4 pound of green beans. My first zucchini is growing bigger. DD just tested positive for Covid, wah! No Sunday dinner this week. Wah!
Isn't covid like a common cold now?

Didn’t realize one of my water globes had run out and had to rush out with the watering can today to rescue my outdoor basil. 😱 But thank the Lord it appears to have bounced back, no harm done.

I also did one last round of the garden stores for seeds. Most of them have packed those away for the season. Do they not realize how much growing season is left???
They need room to set up the Christmas decorations...

Was on vacation, am so far behind I'm skipping posts.

The drought finally broke while we were away, now we're having monsoon type weather.

The Summer squash and beans are spent, I need to pull them but the heat and humidity are doing a number on me. I managed to get part of the yard mowed in-between showers and dry enough to not clog the mower. I had one very full bag of clippings to empty in the run while the skies emptied on me!

It made my flock happy.

Watermelon and cantaloupe plants are looking good, though not quite ripe. The tomatoes are ripening like gangbusters, too.

I stripped leaves from all the red merlot lettuce plants, left the tops to grow. This second batch of plants is growing in the shade of my tomato plants. Hasn't slowed down their growth much and might keep them from bolting.

I'm going to spread some chicken compost around the garden plants and mulch over it with dried grass clippings today.

ETA: Got the garden fertilized and mulched.

Can someone please tell me, back in the long long ago far away time, before mankind started planting passive stands of tomatoes, what did the roaming herds of tomato hornworms eat? I mean, good lord. I skipped yesterday, and today I went out and heard chewing before I even made it to the garden fence. I opened the gate to find a tomato plant, that just two days ago was full and hearty, half gone and tomatoes on the plant half eaten. On it instead, was a massive worm, napkin tied around his neck, knife and fork in hand, with a name tag that said, 'HI MY NAME IS Nibbler'. SERIOUSLY?! Where do they come from so quickly and so large?!
I'm starting to wonder if one of my garden envious neighbors are breeding them and tossing them into the tomato patch at night.
