What did you do in the garden today?

I'm am sooo happy we don't have fire ants here. Yet anyway.

Sit while picking...you just got the attention of my aching sacroiliac.
My GreenStalk vertical planters. The only reason I'm still able to garden.

ETA: kind of hard to see all grown in, here they are when we set them up.

I'm liking that personal fan idea! Hot flashes...ugh. I can relate.
I dug mine out yesterday!

I'm so disappointed this year! NO ONE is gardening except me. My coworkers and friends all either never started their gardens or they catastrophically failed.

This year I set my garden up to maximize variety by planning to *trade* so now I have limited variety and ludicrous quantity. I have 200 carrots ready to pull and no one to trade with. 200 carrots!!! Aaah!

Any suggestions what to cook? I've got a lot of potatoes too.

Bummer we aren't closer, I love carrots & they look wonderful.

Good morning gardeners. Same string of storms came rolling through here @Sueby. They started much earlier than predicted. I was pretty confident we wouldn’t lose power because I was prepared. Lol! This has been an exhausting few weeks with all this heat. Add in that this is the time of year when I’m off on all my numerous medical appointments. While I was picking green beans this morning I realized they were still wet from the late night rain. Hopefully I didn’t do any damage. I did get 1/2 pound of beans. I did a little weeding around the bean and squash plants. Also did a little weeding around the grape vines. My pumpkin plants are blooming as are my tiny watermelon plants. They are way too small to produce anything. I need to thank you @cj2024 for getting me to try baking my sourdough loaves in the counter top oven. The first attempt was ho hum satisfactory but this second batch was great. One loaf was baked yesterday after a minimal proofing time for the sponge then baked after two rises in my Ninja oven The rise on the loaf was best I’ve ever had. The second loaf spent it’s second rise in the refrigerator overnight then warmed up on the prep table before getting baked. It came out excellent. I’m not sure if I’ll ever use my regular oven for baking bread again. It saves on electricity too.

The flavor wasn’t as tangy as I usually get but I can live with that.

The carrots and potatoes will keep for a while if stored properly. You could also freeze them.

I would start making a stew and then can it for winter. A good hot stew in winter always warms the soul.

Sprayed my brassicas with BT tonight. I've been trying to keep them alive through the summer heat so they will provide a 2nd crop in the fall... But the worms and grasshoppers are brutal. Trying to decide what to do about the grasshoppers... Maybe grab a butterfly net and try to catch them, I guess? I might have some neem oil still but it doesn't seem to help too much around here. I'd like to stay away from Sevin and other poisons.

Any other ideas?
I put out molasses grasshopper traps out and have caught some cabbage moths and flies . Maybe if I put them in bigger ( 2 liter) bottle it might help. I just catch them with a 1 gallon jug shake them silly ( lots of satisfaction there) and throw to my hens.
