Mom goats were sold to a person who has a few other goats of the same breed. She has 2.5 acres fenced and a small pond, so they should be pretty happy there.

Garden is getting watered today. I’ll be watering trees again -it’s really dry here, as is typical for August. Tomatoes and tomatillos are producing well. Carrots in abundance. Winter squash is also doing well, although one variety hasn’t produced much, but the squash are on the larger side. It’s a new to me variety and won’t get planted again unless it’s amazing.

Maybe today I’ll finally get a few fall things planted. It’s been really busy, so I need to get mustard, beets, spinach in the ground!

Nice... How much is it? I get a locally milled premium scratch. It has corn, millet, soybeans, BOSS, oats, and flax. Costs me $18 for a 50 lb bag.

A couple years ago I planted a young Pink Lady apple tree that I picked up from the feed store. This is the first year it has fruit....3 apples. I've been watching them closely all year. I was going to pick one last week because I feel like it's ready except that it hasn't turned pink yet. Still green-yellow in color. So I left it. Plus the internet says they don't mature until late fall.

Well this morning I was filling water in the duck pen and noticed one of the apples fell to the ground. It was COVERED in ants. Well I REFUSED to allow my first apple to be stolen from me by ants... So I "spray rolled" it across the yard to get the ants off. Took it inside and spent another 15 minutes cleaning ants out from parts inside... But I still ended up with half the apple being untouched. It was quite good... Sweet for sure. Now I'm feeling like maybe the tree was mismarked because all the apples are green, not like a Pink Lady. And clearly this one was ripe...

It’s cloudy here so not too bad outside. All I’m doing today is cleaning the pool and refilling it. Doubt we’ll get any rain but I’ll take the cooler temps.

More on my apple mystery...

I went ahead and picked one of the 2 remaining apples. The last one is too high to reach without a ladder.

The yellow-green apple is from my mystery tree.

The pink-red one is a Pink Lady I bought on Sunday at the store.

So... Clearly different. Wondering if my mystery tree is a Golden Delicious? The apple I tasted this morning is sweet but not as sweet as a Pink Lady.

Maybe I'll try to leave the last apple on the tree until October and see if it turns pink?

I have serious reactions to ammonia. Cannot even be in the same room if someone sprays Blue Windex.

At work I had told everyone and brought in a replacement for Windex. One guy didn't like it and got some Windex from the custodial. He sprayed it when I was in the room and they ended up calling an ambulance because I passed out. I was fine later

This heat is horrible! Forcasted to be 100° today! Watered the Pumpkin plants that think their Morning Glorys. Tried to bush-hog a pasture, quit because of a flat drive tire. Nine more days and we go on vacation!
