What did you do in the garden today?

Ohh, I came here to say we have been completely invaded by bindweed this year! I've never seen it here before, but it's everywhere now. I've always had people jump on me when I post pics of my morning glory vines, this stuff is very different. Stinks!

Looks like we're having the same day! Bindweed is part of the grumble here for years, though, nothing new. Pick squash--pull bindweed. Manage the hoophouse--while digging bindweed. Enjoy the dahlias--while bindweed blooms dramatically across the neighbor's barn in the background. Eat an apple off the tree...pretend not to notice the newest climber on the fence.

Sigh. I love my garden but bindweed is such a pain. Hope you can manage to dig up all the root before it becomes part of your forever cycle. If not...well. At least hummingbirds think it's great.

Other than in Thanksgiving dressing, I have never used sage. I have a sage plant that is doing very well (now that it's in the garden and getting plenty of light), and I want to dry some. But I only make stuffing once or twice a year.

So... what is sage good with?
I use it in anything chicken/turkey related. Its great with a winter squash too. I also use it in all my soups, it's one of my favorite herbs.

LOL, totally made me giggle. This stuff sucks! It really is the first year I've seen it & we are relentlessly pulling it up, hopefully we win but I feel like your life is now my life. :lau I'm trying very hard not to let it flower. I had to laugh, I looked up if you could burn it (like we do all weeds here) & google said yes, every 7 days for 3-5 years. Me & DH laughed for a while on that.

Looks like morning glory from here.
It is def not the morning glory I grow on purpose on my fence. That stuff I can pull up & it doesn't come back, this stuff is relentless & the leaves are a different shape.

This is non-invasive morning glory, the leaves are heart shaped, the bindweed leaves are much less broad:

I usually add it according to taste as I'm cooking because some sage batches seem more potent than others, or as grandma would say, start with a pinch then go from there. Just don't be swigging too much wine as you cook...ya might end up with too much kick-ass. 😆
:lau too funny.

I make a broccoli soup where I saute the onions with bacon & sage - that smell is fall in New England to me. 😍

@Sally PB try frying a couple sage leaves & adding it to a risotto - OMG so good. I don't eat rice, but I have a recipe for cauliflower rice risotto that has fried sage in it & it is SO good. It's also fantastic with like butternut squash, fry leaves in butter & add...

That's hedge bindweed. Still a royal pia of a plant.

My live blue gill order from eBay was canceled, they can't ship to my location. I placed another order for live common carp from another seller, but they didn't confirm the order, it's still awaiting shipping. I can buy ornamental koi where I live, but no one sells the common carp that was bred for food. I want to try grilling it..........
