What did you do in the garden today?

I went out to see if weeds were coming up yet to till under and lo and behold the zipper cream peas I mowed off once and then came back from their stumps giving us another crop before I mowed them down again. Now they have come back a second time after mowing and are blooming again. No frost insight so we may pick another week or two's meals from them yet.

Still no rain here. We had a light frost this morning with highs in the mid 40’s to 50’s all day. Tomorrow we start a warm up for a few days. Windy and warm. I’ll be bringing the hanging grow bags of strawberries indoors before the temperatures drop again. I’m looking for a day with little wind to work on collecting the leaves to cover the garden beds.

Been getting lots of rain here, probably 2 inches in the last week or so.

I took a quick look at the garden and counted the garlic cloves that sprouted above the ground. I counted 54 out of the 60 that I planted. I remember last year I planted 16 cloves and all of them grew into nice heads.

Do your chickens eat the leaves?
They can't reach the leaves; however, they will pick on it if I strip some off for them and put it in their feed trough. I stop feeding them the leaves because I see a lot of left over. They prefer the chicken pellets, but I am sure if I starved them, they would eat it.

Apparently we got a little bit of rain here while I was gone over the weekend. Maybe just shy of 1/4”.

Picked a zucchini yesterday. Noticed a lot more damage on my broccoli plant leaves so I set up a camera to see what's eating them. A opossum! I'm picking up a trap today. The last thing I want is that thing getting into my chicken coop. Seems like my little "urban homestead" is productive enough now that I am fighting more than just gophers.

Heard a Great Horned Owl in the yard early, early, this morning. Hopefully they are helping solve my rodent problem. Between them and the barn owls I hear they had better be pulling their weight... Too bad they can't pick up a opossum.

Oh yeah and my carrots are finally sprouting! Peas as well!

Too bad they can't pick up a opossum.
GH owls get my turkeys that dress out 17lbs ...they grab the neck to kill and just eat what they want leaving the body untouched most of the time.

They do eat opossum
