What did you do in the garden today?

I use sphegnum moss in the pots. It maintains a good moisture level around the roots without allowing rot.
I put two 1/4-inch wicking ropes in the basket to keep the coco moist. In comparison from past experiments, I had better results without the wicking ropes. This year, I am curious to see how the clay pebbles perform. It's an experiment on humidity and breathability.

I just had a heated discussion with my A1 copilot, and we concluded that all the Kratky bucket needs is a small hole on the top side for the plant to breath (Gas exchange) and I should cover the top with plastic, so the rain doesn't get in and to keep the medium from completely drying out.

Today I fed my chickens their pellets in the garden so they would till it up for me. I love using my chickens for free labor 😌
I found that the wild feral chickens in my neighborhood does a better job at tilling than my fat lazy chickens. My chickens are a cross between a Breese rooster and a Cornish X hen.........They spend most of their time under a tree.

I will get back into growing mushrooms again. The part I didn't like about it was the strict sanitation ritual that needs to be performed to prevent contamination. Back when I got into it, they didn't have these portable still air boxes, I just found out about them a moment ago and ordered one. I still have a few jaws of milky mushroom grain spawn that I may be able to salvage, and a couple of petri dishes of oyster mushroom pollen.

My daughter in St Louis Mo had to miss work. Can not get the car out. She got ice first then 8" of snow.
I live just outside of St. Louis, we got about 2 inches of sleet and very little snow (if any). The kids were off school all week! Some neighborhoods are still bad because of the ice and temps that have warmed enough to let the road ice start to melt but then temps drop again and everything refreezes.
We had to literally chisel out the ice in blocks to get our driveway cleared. It's 12 days later and we still have ice and snow on the ground. The school bus still won't go into my daughter's neighborhood.
