What did you do in the garden today?

Well I'll be.... The 3rd and final peony that I thought had died last year just poked it's head out of the dirt!

Sweet Basil plants were getting some funky shaped leaves, so I up-potted them today. Also planted the Turkey Craw beans, by the time they sprout and need trellising hopefully it will be warm enough to move them outside.

My chives and my tarragon are peeking out of the soil, I can’t tell if the sage made it or not.

I’m glad he mentioned Espoma is one of the safe brands. That’s what I have been using since I started gardening on this property.

I've used Espoma brand additives on my fruit trees and bushes, and I think it has made a big difference.

Today I filled some pots with home made potting soil in the green house. I watered them and put some clear totes over them to help them warm up. The plan is to put seeds in pots by April First.

Wild plum blossoms smell just heavenly. I'll just offer that.

Bradford pear blossoms stink.

Wild plums form thickets. Often a patch are clones of one tree spread by root suckers. I have grafted to wild plums in the past. The root suckers are hard to manage around grafted trees.

85' today, 82 tomorrow, and a blizzard with 6 inches of snow and 60 mph winds Wednesday. Yep, it's March.

I repotted my 3 baby pomegranates and moved them outside.

Then I started trying to clear out that privet and mystery vine again. DH came home and was a huge help with the backhoe to get about 90% of it out. The ground is really uneven now and there's still a lot of small stuff that broke off with roots in the ground. This whole corner is turning into one big headache. Plus there's a 2 ft gap between our fence and the neighboring fence where we can't get all the crap back there. Tomorrow I'm going to try to use the front loader on the tractor to even the ground out as best as I can. Then I'll spray everything with horticultural vinegar and cover with a couple of layers of black plastic. I can spray between the fences but that's the best I can hope for there.... Ugh. What a PITA.

We had a thunderstorm come through today. No tornado but it rattled my house and windows. I cleaned the ducklings up and cleaned the cage that they are in. I put them in the dining room since none of us eat in there. I still have more clean up to do but for now I'm done.

I chopped down my everglade cherry tomato plant and made 2 pints of ketchup. My preference is minced garlic, grated onion, 1 TBS of vinegar, 1/2 tsp cummin, and a 1 to 2 ratio of salt to sugar to taste with each pint of blended and strained tomato liquid, plus 3 TBS corn starch to thicken.
