What did you do in the garden today?

The snow we got yesterday is already melting so that is good.

Watered veggies and flower starts indoors and picked a few tomatoes from indoor growing. For fun I tried a method of indoor growing with Tiny Tim tomatoes. Started them in January and now we're getting a lot of little tomatoes. It is something anyway since we live in a shorter growing season area.

That sounds like a fun project for winter, how big of a pot would I need to grow tomatoes indoors? And would it have to be cherry tomatoes? Ooh, I definitely need to do some research

33 when I got up, clear skies,
I got a lot done yesterday images (16).jpg

Walked with my coffee yesterday morning and checked out the Asian pear blooms and compared them to the small unknown tree next to it, I think they are the same.
the old large pear ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ the small sucker shoot

and I am so glad this very dark purple lilac is about to bloom. then - way in the background you can see all the leftover plywood the roofers left me. I moved it all from the driveway up to the garden and moved two old pallets we had.

Next I moved all the tools, buckets and things and set up the two pallets next to the compost bin.
Then, I moved the fence line on this north side back to mirror up with the field fence. I got it all set and tied off and strung field tape to keep the deer out.

you can see the mowed grass and fence post from where the garden fence was.

so now I have room for my woodchip pile compost and room to plant squash.

that was plenty of work for one day

Potted my excess seedlings into containers that I'm okay with giving away yesterday morning. Then we went to the property and I sat on the tractor most of the day. And drug and threw old decaying logs into the gully head that is trying to erode from the"repairs" the community contractor did. 🙄 I'm loading it up with organics as I can get my tractor closer and closer as I fill the shallower trench with loads of dirt as I go. It's scary to work on with the tractor. Someday I'll have a skid steer. Someday. I'm going to plant sage brush and other native chaparral at the head and below to stabilize the soil.

I didn't take photos of that, I will next time I go out. But I did take a photo of the view from where I cleared brush!

Still need to level it with the box scraper but at least it's defendable space now. Fire season is close.

Today I'm planting more tomatoes and maybe peppers.

Caught a roof rat that I had been hearing outside the window at night. I wonder where they are coming from.... Never had rats until last year. Now I've caught 5.

I don't know if we're allowed to put outside links here. I bought a kit and followed the plan from The Rusted Gardener. The kit had Tiny Tim tomato seeds, very small grow bags, seed pots and tray. It was not expensive and very effective. I grew a couple of extra seeds in pots but those in the little grow bags have done the best.

I think very small tomato plants are best for this. In addition to the Tiny Tim seeds I planted a few Orange Top Hat seeds the following month. They're coming along and are truly tiny plants.
