What did you do in the garden today?

It's been a while since I hatched eggs, I forgot to take out the Brinsia rotating bottom tray and I almost made a big mistake. I was going to open the incubator and take out a couple of hatched chicks because of my exploding egg phobia. That would cause shrink wrapping on the other eggs with one day left to go. I got 3 Isa Brown chicks so far.............one male and 2 females. I am happy because when I candled them at 10 days, I saw only one egg with movement. The rest of them were black and I couldn't see anything.

Unlike most everyone else here, it seems, my garden is enjoying cool, moist weather. The lettuce and brassicas are going crazy.

I took a bowl and scissors out and filled it with 2.176 pounds of leaf lettuce and 0.187 pounds of watercress. There will be a lot less cress when I remove the leaves from the stems, which I chopped off with the scissors.

I think I'll have a dill crop this year from all the volunteers that came up.

The chicken run woodchip compost pile is still hovering at 105° at 10 inches depth. Kind of hard to see on the pic.

When I get tired of eating my lettuce, I feed them to my tilapia, my chickens won't eat the leaves unless it's on a living plant.
My chickens eat lettuce. With this much lettuce on hand I think I'll make some wilted lettuce like my grandma made.

In a skillet with a little bacon grease add some apple cider vinegar and sugar to get a sweet and sour flavor. Pile in roughly chopped lettuce and cover it. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until the lettuce has wilted down. Stir, plate and sprinkle on bacon bits.

It takes a lot of lettuce, because it wilts down to nearly nothing.

winds howling over 50mph today.
Guess what? It's dry out. LOL
The hens are out for now, but I'll get them back in by noon. They're just out there hiding from the wind. At least in the coop, I can create still air spaces.

Pollen is still off the charts.
Waiting for beans and corn to emerge. Tomatoes in the greenhouse are about 20 inches tall and I'll deliver this week.
