What did you do in the garden today?

How irresponsible would it be to spend $27 on 4 seed packets, 3 of which only have 10 seeds each
I guess it depends on what kind they are. Some seeds are pricey.

Does anyone know what this is? It grows like a tree but it's hollow inside and has purple berries.

Yep, poke weed.

……isn’t pokeweed used in some backwoods, voodoo— ish medicine?
The first poke leaves that come out of the ground in the spring are good in cooked greens. My grandma always had wild greens in the early spring. Poke, dandelion, lambsquarters, curly dock and some others I don't remember. None of us got sick or died, but she did change the boiling water once or twice.

I think the greens were her version of a spring tonic.

Edited to add: Grandma lived into her late 90's.

Picked green beans, rattlesnake beans, a jalapeno pepper and a tiny habanero pepper, which I ate and soon regretted eating. It was a hot little thing!

Got another little pullet egg too. I might save up some of the little eggs, hard boil them and pickle them in dill pickle juice.

I picked up banty for a egg customer.
He used the banty size for pickled eggs.

After locating the missing 16 SQ ft barn square she is now hanging again. This time she's on the new hay shed. I still need to make some repairs to her, but I need supplies, and she'll be easy to fix hanging up.

The second one, the one from the back of the workshop that is being resided, will not be going back there. I'm thinking of putting her in a nook, on posts in front of the house. She's due for a new coat of clear seal.

Currently feels like 106'
I'm over this weather.

Pokeweed

One of the two banes of my existence.... Japanese honeysuckle is the other.

Oh, and Greenbriar. So 3, I guess.

And wireweed.... Make that 4. 😂

I should stop now.

Deer started eating the front porch tomato plant that's in the self watering container. I was wondering if/when it would happen and it finally did.

I moved the setup to the other side of the front porch where it's much higher off the ground, but still accessible if the deer walk up the steps, which I'm sure they will do eventually. I need to build some kind of barrier up there.

I was surprised to see so many roots down below the 5 gallon bucket. I guess tomato plants don't mind having the roots totally submerged in water.
