What did you do in the garden today?

After 2 days of good rain there is nothing to do in my little garden except watch it grow. Back to the great room remodel... cept im involved in cat TNR and yesterday was all about transfers and vets. Fellow trapper was able to grab the last 2 of 4 sick kittens. I was able to trap 2 from another location that night also. Thus bringing my foster cat totals up to 18. Plus my 8 cats... so, I actually thought second breakfast was what they all got... I did not know us mere humans were allowed such privilege... guess when one works like a dog it is mandatory! Off to medicate kittens and feed second breakfast and hope to get back to sanding walls by 10am. Good news is floor tile will be delivered on the 24th, so a little more wiggle room and a pressure off my painting project.

Just in case you needed a feel good story today. New charges.

These 2 just passed their "certs" and will be flying out to Seattle and then driving to NY!

This one, Jack, or Papa Jack. He is new to my home from one of my feeding/bait sites.

He was too old and sick to put back in the wild, so after nursing him back to health he is free to roam here.

It appears as though the flock has taken to the new coop converted from the old shed after about four days with minimal input from their staff,AKA me. Glad this is almost behind us because all this patting myself on the back has my arm sore.

They just make me smile with all the clucking and chattering to each other.

mine make me smile as I watch them as they run away with their fluffy butts waddling behind them. Always looked funny to me from the start.

Picked some bell peppers and jalapenos this morning for a batch of salsa. Pulled up one area of my cucumbers. Put the hens in the garden for awhile. They just make me smile with all the clucking and chattering to each other. View attachment 4232222

Probable frost tonight so I picked all the butternut squash and tomatoes. Squash vines went to the chickens, along with my fall green bean plants that I planted a month to late. They just started blooming...

Tomato plants went into the woods on top of the pepper plants. Picked the big zucchini I let mature in hopes of getting viable seeds. I'll cut it open in a month or two and see what's what.

Still have Blue Lake pole beans to pick. I'll have to cover the habanero plants with buckets again and deal with potting them tomorrow.

Pulled up all the dill plants and broadcast the seeds onto the garden for next year's dill pickles.

Most gardens have been put to bed for the year. I bought a cool, new hand tool that makes quick work of clearing plant debris out. View attachment 4232289

@Sally PB , I tried the dill pickled green tomatoes I made a month ago. I am not impressed. They're soft and mushy and have a bitter aftertaste. Never again.

Felt better today than I have in awhile. Getting over the pneumonia. Family members all got the same bug. Mine turned into pneumonia. Made a pumpkin pie. That pumpkin made a very good pie.
