What did you do in the garden today?

Made broccoli salad. We prefer homemade as the store bought is coarse and tough. Lots of tough stalk. We use the stalks but everything goes into the food processor and pulsed a bit.
That sounds really good! I use my stalks and leaves and make cream of broccoli soup and freeze. Great for casseroles and broccoli cheddar soup

I set out some starter cups with some cherry seeds so they can stratify over the coming weeks. I had them all inside a larger, heavier planter to keep them from being knocked over and safe from chickens. Well the high winds this weekend flipped the heavy planter and tossed it across the yard. Seeds gone. 🤬😭🤬😭

Time to start over

My broccoli scraps get recycled into eggs. 😉

I started some oregano seeds and some Iroquois Cornbread beans in pots today. I want to start the onions too but I’m not sure what kind of planter(s) to use this year. I did toilet paper roll pots last year and those did better than the plastic seed tray, but they’re supposedly good to start packed together like grass and broken out later and that would be much easier space-wise - except that I’m out of pots. 🙃

I also got some coffee seeds for funzies but MIGardener said those do better with volcanic rocks in the soil (!) so I need to get some of that before I can plant them.

Canning up some more pumpkin puree today. I don't think I will plant pumpkins next year since i had a good year this last year!
I need to get to that point with hot peppers. I learned that the dozen or so plants from two years ago made enough to last about a year…which is great except my area doesn’t have good pepper years consistently, and this year wasn’t a pepper year. I had to buy cayenne powder. 😭

So going forward I need to start planting at least twice that to cover for the bad years. This year I’m planning to put in some ghost peppers too in the hopes that I can get away with putting less pepper powder in the various dishes and by extension stretch them farther.

I ordered this... can you tell I'm getting very impatient for seed starting? 😂😂 I have atleast 2 more months before daytime temps get about 20°F and nighttime above 15°F so I'm chomping at the bit haha

Let us know how it is. I was looking at something similar if not it.... Didn't look like the lights could be lowered. But the shelves were adjustable.

Yeah on this one the shelves are adjustable and the lights are sort of adjustable. I say sort of because they give you two different mounting options a chain or a small ring the ring would keep the light right up against the top of the shelf for the highest height, the chain you can adjust how low the light hangs but only by the length of the chain. And this one you can choose the wavelength of light in between each individual bar so if I wanted to I could have two shelves on that purplish light and two shelves on the white full spectrum Etc. It's supposed to be here on Monday so I'll let you guys know if it's a piece of crap or not once I put it together and if it was worth the money I paid LOL

I have cherry seeds and raspberry seeds in pots stratifying outside for the winter. Cherry seeds are from Carmine jewel bush cherry and some from my sweet cherry that had a few pollinated by sour cherry.
