I've been chickening all day. My two broodies were on 4 eggs and two of them have hatched and fluffed out. This is my first experience with a broody hatch and I've been totally in awe..in between the house and back all day long to check on the babehs and see if the others have hatched out.
Then I tried to introduce my 8 week old cuckoo marans to the 15 week old kids. They've been in a split coop most of their lives and all of the chickens have been able to see each other. Everything was going good until my mean old Duffy cockeral went in and started chasing and pecking them. None of the 9 others were mean to the cuckoos...just Duffy, so I put an ad on Craigslist for him. I hope someone comes and gets him soon or it's chop chop. I threatened to throw him in the pen with the big boy RueRoo and his girls. RueRoo would have shown him who the alpha roo is. Duffy's going to be a mean roo, I can certainly tell that. Nasty little boy he is.
