What did you do with your flock today?

I didn’t even mention my other issue. I’m 100% positive it caused the crossed beak.. I had one chick that did hatch that I thought didn’t have cross beak and I noticed when moving them to the bigger brooder does. I didn’t pick them up much to check on them because I thought they were doing great. All growing and already feathering. And none had any indication of cross beak when I moved them from the incubator. But only one developed cross break after hatch. Developing great so far so I’m not gonna cull it. If I notice any problems that it might be causing it pain or I notice that it isn’t thriving I may put it out of its misery. I’m just not sure how to deal with this yet. I have made the food mushy though it has been eating great without doing that. I’m just so mad right now with myself and the stupid incubator. 😭😭😭

On a lighter note, I have my first Pavlovskaya with a hair do. My 2 girls don’t have it but the boy does. I just love the look of this little one.

Don’t mind the light, it is making taking the pictures hard but I have it so the turkeys can see the food and water better since the light will reflect off the marbles. Btw, yes you can have fluffy cute small little ducks! Enjoy life!!! 🤣
I've only had crossbeak once. A hatchery yoko chick developed it. I wonder if there's any way to correct it when they're still young like that. I couldn't think of anyway to correct the alignment while bones and beaks are still hardening so fixable. If you come up with any ideas I'd love to hear about it. It should be like toes and legs where if you can hold it in the right alignment it'll correct as the beak hardens...just how to do it and still allow them to eat and drink?

It's been a normal start of the day. Feed, water, talk to them, reminded the free ranging pet rooster what his job was and that I'm the caretaker so he be take care of me too. He wanted a feeder that I was taking to another place and kept trying to get me to stop and let him have it for his girls.
That sounds like my little chicken Snookie...she has 24/7 food available but still jumps in the air to try to snatch food from me 🤣 Makes me glad she's tiny!

Well, I had one hen trying to go broody a week ago. I didn't pull her and try to break her out of it...just kept taking the eggs. This hens my broodiest girl. She goes broody every time I blink it feels like. Fast forward to yesterday and I now have six hens all trying to brood 🫤. Oops. Good thing they're little birds and the parrot cage I use to break broodiest is huge. Today I'll be pulling them all out and letting them cool their tushies on the porch for a bit.
I wonder if some of the breeds that don't brood developed because people culled girls like this one? I might see if anyone wants her just because she'll end up spending half her life in a broody breaking cage here 😬.

My goat is giving birth!!! ❤️ Betty Boop has given birth so far to a little boy!

Had a busy day with 9 chicks that hatched Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The last one to hatch struggled to get out. And she is a bit behind. The mamma’s (I had 3 mama’s on 11 hatching eggs) are out and about today. The last one to hatch (Junior) is not strong and smart enough to catch up. She is left alone and starts to peep (getting cold probably).

I took her out the coop a couple of times to keep her warm in a kind of kangaroo-bag against my body.
The others only need feed and cleaning up. The mamas do the rest.

When I went out to gather the days eggs all was well with the RIR's. Got over to the Delaware palace and got yelled at by to grouchy pullets. They won't be a year old until mid September. They were hunkered down in the community style rollout box on the astro turf. Now how do those gals think they can go broody in that environment? One really swelled up and fussed like she was ready for war over that turf.
Didn't know they can go broody that soon! I guess if one is laying, it can happen, but two at the same time! Are you going to let them set, or break them?
