These are ripening. Guess who gets all the imperfect ones? My chicklets, of course. Picked 4.5 lbs. today, just starting. The kids probably got more than half a pound. Also sprayed water all over their grassy area so they could cool off their feet. It was 82 today. Do firework noises set back their laying?View attachment 3566432

That's a lot of raspberries! Ours won't be anywhere near as productive as we've replaced nearly all our old canes with 1st year ones. The ones we have had so far I shared with Ferdy and Penelope. No one else likes them. Except Elliot. He's the only cat I've known to love a bowl of raspberries and chopped kale!
I've been making copious amounts of jam from my blackcurrant, whitecurrants, strawberries and gooseberries.

Can't wait to see the antics tomorrow morning brings. Still lots to do but chickens seem pretty happy. I am beat, going to sleep great tonight.

Technically I should only rescue 24. Hope and her brood are still in a nest box for a little while longer (6) guess I gotta find one of those , friends hen is in a cage and the 27 can squeeze in I guess. I'll probably add another roost in somewhere depending how they sort out.

Last night was a total awesome zoo ♡ as the kitties played race track attack all night long, unless they were packed ontop of me resting that is. Anyone ever try sleeping in a soft single bed with 4 kitties? Glad they are having fun ♡ but I need coffee. Couldn't move, could not access blanket. Tuff stuff.

Lots and lots to do, but gotta do it. Firework display 1 block away from my house at the park.

Never tried sleeping with that many cats but I can definitely imagine Sounds delightfully packed and playful!

Had neighbors set off fireworks late on June 30th. Haven't seen my cat since earlier today. Hope he's ok. He did ok last year. Not sure how the birds will fare.

Goose did great with the fireworks. It was quieter this year with less of the artillery shell type getting set off around us so all the pets were more relaxed.
The birds got to feast on corn cobs, watermelon rinds and even half a hamburger. Mina got the corn husks and silk and Jazz got some watermelon.

I'm going to sit and talk with a special group of my flock kids today once it cools down some if I don't get stormed out. It's already rained some I can tell by the ground. We were gone out of necessity and missed it. We did get home in time to turn them loose before the heat got to be unbearable for them.

Room to spare

So far they are having a blast, though the gals are screaming for proper nest boxes. At a bit of a scramble at the moment... again ♡

Spent 30 minutes spreading mulch and about 2 hours rebuilding brooder to give Hope an crew their own space to eat and nap- till I build brooder in the coop. But now I can't get it into the run all by myself
Well, off to build a ramp for them to get to their roosts.

The chickens have been handling the heat pretty well, I think. 94 degrees today, but they didn't seem to mind. They were all active and alert. Panting a little, but not much. I refilled their waterer half full of fresh water and dropped in a frozen water bottle to keep it chilled for a few hours.

Tomorrow I'm going to expand their run space somehow.
