What did you do with your flock today?

Happy July 2 😞.
Last eve, just after dusk and after coming down from the mountain, folks were setting off fireworks at the beach. Lots and lots, big ones too. We got Elliott dosed and in his thundervest, then had to lock him in bathroom. Poor guy. Locked cats in house and shut all windows and turned on a bunch of fans. They all hunkered under bed and furniture ☹️. Hard to respect *** some humans. That was July 1.

So, today I got sprinklers going, wash and hang dry a few loads of laundry and packing up some basics as tonight I am heading up. Will get a few more things done so I can bring up chooks, hopefully b4 the 4th.
Had neighbors set off fireworks late on June 30th. Haven't seen my cat since earlier today. Hope he's ok. He did ok last year. Not sure how the birds will fare.

I was the processor early in life at the age of 12. Never liked it but understand it is God's way of feeding us. I may have been a Levite in a previous life the way I like BBQ is what I've told a lot of people. Ya know they got to eat of the Altar meats. I think that was the original BBQ.
Boiled and bbq. They sure ate well.

Beeeebies are sure cute and fun. I'm not minding these littles at all. I think it is mostly because Hope is an incredible and relaxed mom. The flock is totally groovy with her and littles, for as mean as they were to her when she was brooding it is a total relief.
Really plowing through feed. The doves, sparrows and ferals are living large on my dime. When I take flock up and remove their food source I'm hoping everyone moves on.
Agree, beeeebies are so much fun to watch grow up.

Happy 4th of July all! 🇺🇸💙❤️

I had a great big ribeye steak for lunch today. This evening I gave my chickens a gift of the bone. There were still some scraps of meat and fat left on it.

Well, I tossed it in the run, they all ran to it and one pecked on it. Then they all froze in position for like 10 or 15 seconds. I mean like rock solid, not moving, stuffed animal froze. It was like they were thinking "This looks like good stuff, but how do I eat this bone???" It was really strange that they all just locked up and didn't move for all that time.

After that they started pecking and picking at the bone to get the goodies off.

Chickens are fun and funny.

Found another king snake in the garden today. This one's a little thing with the prettiest yellow dot on its forehead ❤️ We're getting a few repeat king snake visitors. Love having these guys around.View attachment 3565312
Stunning! My friend had an albino King snake years ago as a pet. He found him in a car park at death's door. He'd probably been dumped and It's way too cold for them outdoors over here.
