What did you do with your flock today?

Well, they are part of my excuse to come and be able to stay for a few 3 months. So I am basically hiding behind my chickens  and using them forsure! Very big of me lol. But yes, lucky. Just can't do heat like I used to.

Oh yes, little efficient heaters on the bus. Bless your heart 🙏

Tell us about your flock ♡!
I know I am out of my coop being here because I have Ducks instead of Chickens but I love all birds so here I am. I have a Muscovy Drake, Khaki Campbell Drake, half Rouen and Half wild Mallard Drake, A Muscovy Hen, Khaki Campbell Hen, 2 Rouen Hens, 2 Mallard hens and 3 Mule Ducks. I believe the Mother was one of my Rouen Hens and the Father was my Muscovy Drake. I had seen him mate with her several times and I took three eggs out of my pen where they all live together at the time and hatched them out myself. They are absolutely beautiful, they have the heads of the Rouen Ducks and the bodies of a barred Muscovy Duck, all black and gray. Thank you for asking. I too do not like the heat but have done my job for only 37 years and don't want to give it up yet. There is no one standing in line for it for some reason, LOL.

Quiet day getting the garden ready to plant...and because I'm impatient, I did plant some cucumbers.

Yesterday we finished raking up the mesquite pods. My beautiful youngest helped me with that huge chore. We filled an entire pallet compost bin with them!

Took some yoko pictures today. View attachment 3202463View attachment 3202464
And then the sunset. I missed the best part of sunset today...but it always pleases me anyhow.View attachment 3202465
Beautiful pictures!!!! If I could post on here and showed you where I am at you would see beautiful Amazon buildings!!! LOL

Good morning, No tomato here yet plants where stunted had way too much rain this spring .. Everything is like a month behind.
My blasted broccoli and cauliflower is bolted already.

@Luv Ducks i can not have ducks. I am far over my allotment of chickens (go figure) and I don't have the space carved out for them and their needs. We can technically only bring in muscovy ducks because they supposedly won't mate or can't mate or something with our one and only native duck the Koloa duck, who happens to look much like a mallard. Must have blew over in some terrific storm 5,000 years ago. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Other islands have a few other breeds but they don't have our duck population??? Not sure. If I were to get ducks I'd like Indian runners and what @ChicksnMore has and probably you too! 😂😂😂 the muscovy has not grown on me yet.

35 years is a looong time! I'd imagine a few more and you get a watch and a full time view of Amazon buildings (and ducks!) lol.

Gave up on gardening for awhile. Planted fruit trees instead. Our best gardening starts in fall to spring so we can have a long growing season but summers are too hard for most. I envy your cucumbers ♡♡♡ in the best of ways. They are something I'd like to grow but gave up on entirely because of a pickle worm. Booo! 🪱

Your pictures and the story you paint is transformative ♡
Boy, you get to do cucumbers too?! I'm feeling a little left out lol. I may prep a spot here for a garden... one day. Possibly where the chickens are now lol.

It's funny that they say that the Muscovy will not mate with other ducks. My Male Mallard has mated my Muscovy Hen and my Drake Muscovy has mated my Rouen Hens which look like large Mallards. They are strange looking ducks but the Mules that I have are really pretty. No red carnacles on their faces and marked very pretty. Ducks are very messy but quite entertaining and smart and I love the duck eggs. I fry two every day and eat them and my family eats them also. I always say I have driven the bus for 37 years which is true and in another 37 I will retire, lol. I guess I think my name should have been Mrs. Methusala. The very old person in the bible.

Wow, you really are up there. That is so neat. I never realized there were so many islands there. I looked up your Kokoa duck and it looks so much like my Rouen too. The pictures of them make them look bigger than our Mallards. Our Rouens are just a larger size Mallard. They are a mixed breed of our large Pekin Ducks and Mallard put together to produce them. I am shocked that the Muscovy ducks there would not try to mate with them Mine had no problem at all mating with the Rouens but does leave the smaller Mallards alone so far.
