What did you do with your flock today?

Did I say it'd drive me nuts til I figure it out? 🤣😃

Just in case anyone's interested I'm gonna post any studies I find that are related.

Well, there's way too many studies all saying the same thing so I'll stop listing those...lol. Most are concerned with weight and egg production. Found a few that study if DE can counter aflatoxin (it can), and only one that discusses it's effect on bones. But none regarding feathers yet. Maybe I need to go at it from what the trace minerals etc are that DE contains and how those effect feather growth.

Anyways...out of time right now so I'll try again later.

Last post then I'll hush for a bit...lol.

Schultz is definitely doing better. He still isn't jumping on me or perching but hes chipper and inquisitive and his balance is improving. But I have to pick him up, so he's not feeling fully steady yet. But... he's not falling now ❤️

Haha, I appreciate the links though! :D I am betting you are correct that the trace minerals in DE are useful in feather growth. It's diatomaceous so it's made up of ocean sediment, lots of salts and calcium from fossilized remains and probably some other things feathers like :D

Goats are so much fun! We raised em for a while for milking and cheese making. But my hubby's a bit like @kurby22 's hubby. He's from a long time ranching family but he's a book worm who really doesn't enjoy the outdoors, animals or any of that. He's been very tolerant of me that way all these years!
Anyhow, he always wanted me to butcher the baby goats and I wanted to sell or give them away. All the babies got loved on so much by the kids ya know. The goats got to wear Santa hats and fall asleep in laps. My youngest with one of her favorites from long ago❤️View attachment 3252698

Hope Lizzy's ok!

What a silly chick!
Does Honey get layer feed? I like to give hard molt birds lay feed with diatomaceous earth mixed in. I had a mollacan (sp?) cockatoo with bad feathers. I can't remember why I tried diatomaceous earth in her feed...but I did and it helped. Gosh that's annoying that I can't remember why! Anyhow, it was years and years ago and for some reason led me to adding it to chicken feed for hard molt birds. 🤷‍♀️ That's so unhelpful when I can't remember the why for it! It's going to bother me all day now until I figure it out!
That is just too adorable!!! I’m honestly excited! I know my husband is too. My husband like to claim to have “grown up” in the country but the reality is, he spent maybe 3 yrs in the country is whole life. I know he has knowledge from his grandpa’s farm but it isn’t the same as here. His grandpas farm was in California and we are in Illinois. Just 2 different places. Granted a lot of things are the same but different environments and some different predators. He just has this natural thing with animals though. Dogs that don’t typically like people love him. We have no IDEA why.

She might be broody-ish! Sia and Cher both tried being broody before laying eggs. Sounds like you should definitely keep an eye on her!
Honey is about 16-18 months old so she’s going through a really hard molt. I’ve dusted her for mites, looked her over for anything else and she’s not showing signs of being sick other than lethargy and limited food intake.
And just for a little funny…we refilled the brooder feeder and a few mins later it sounded like one of the chicks was freaking out so Aria checked…and found this 😆
OMGeeze that silly chick...yeah I bet that was a commotion goin on!
Honey ....oh poor baby!!! That looks awful! I wouldn't move either! Oh my goodness! I dread that kind of molt! Surely she'll be ok!
Yeah I sat Lizzy in my lap this afternoon and rubbed her back and up that tail came. But she has no interest whatsoever in Joey or Bluey. And Joey is giving it all he's got charm wise! Calling her for treats...only the d'uccles acknowledge him and I swear they are part vulture lol! Then he was making her a nest area like he's done before with my previous pullet and she could have cared less. So idk....watching her like a hawk lol

I am soooooo glad he's doing better! He looks perking than he did!
